Question about HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I am getting an "Ink system failure" on my new OfficeJet 6500. I tried pressing the * and # keys together, then pressing 1,2 3 in sequence and going to the system configuration menu, also resetting everything, to no avail. Please help.

I have tried cleaning the cartridges and print head as instructed on the hp website: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...
    Problem persists.

  • rangarajan_c Feb 08, 2010

HP is sending a new printhead and cartridges, but I am still wondering if that is the problem. Many people online have successfully resolved the problem for Photosmart printers using the menus. Is there a way "ink system failure" can be corrected without changing the printhead (which was working till a few days ago)? What if changing the printhead doesn't resolve the issue? What if it is a configuration issue?

Hello.

Since you have cleaned the cartridges and printhead and still get the message, you'll probably need a new printhead.

Instructions from HP Support to replace the printhead:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01643079&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=3944627

Hope this helps.

I understand your concern. But, you had mentioned that you already went through the menus as well as cleaned the cartridges and printhead. The next step would be replacing the printhead, per what I have read. Certainly, there is always a risk that this will not solve your problem, but it is the next logical step.

How do i turn off the power save mode

You can turn the sleep mode off with the following steps: 1. Press * and # at the same time. 2. Press 1, 2, and 4 in sequence. 3. Go for under-ware menu (This is the first menu that pops up after enter that sequence). 4. Go to System Menu 5. Look for System Mode Time Out 6. Set it to 0.
However, this seems to create other problems. I tried that on a Client's printer to keep it from going offline, and it made matters worse. Printer would stop in the midst of a print job. So... use with caution. IIf things get worse and you want to reset it to default, the value is 900.

Ink system has failed 0xc18a0206

This is easily fixed with the following key sequences. You do NOT have to open the printer and unplug a circuit board.

1) press * and # at the same time
2) press 1, 2, 3 and “support R0632M” should display
3) press > and “information menu” should display
4) press > and “configuration menu” should display
5) press OK and “hardware failure status” should display
6) press OK “failure status: clear”. Press OK to clear
7) press CANCEL
8) press CANCEL
9) press CANCEL
10) turn printer off, unplug power cord for 2 minutes, plug cord back in then turn printer back on.
NOTE: I did this and the fist time the error came back. Do the sequence again (as I did) and the error will be replaced with the usual print cartridge initialization screens. Print a test page to make sure.
