Question about Computers & Internet

My Compaq Presario SR5601UK running Windows Vista Home Premium locked up today. When trying to reboot it it now freezes on the moving bar that shows on the screen prior to the windows logo and log in screen appering. Ran diagnostics which says: Error Code BI0HD-4 Error: Unititialized/Corrupt Boot Structure Detected Tried Booting in Logged Safe Mode and the computer stops loading files at: \windows\system32\drivers\ahcix86s.sys Help please

OK in theory - Problem is I don't have the original Windows Vista discs - The machine was shipped with Vista pre loaded - I do have the Compaq Recovery Discs which I made after setting up the computer.

If I format the hard disc I loose everything - How do I then set it up again?

    Thanks

I don't have back up hard drives & I don't have OEM Windows Vista Discs.
One of the boot sequence files seems to be corrupted - can I get round this somehow??
    Cheers

Yep - Tried booting from last know good config (x2) - Stops at \windows\system32\drivers\ahcix86s.sys

OK - How do I reload system from recovery discs?

    Thanks

OK - Put recovery disc 1 in CD/DVD Drive & Boot computer

No on screen instructions appear - It just goes straight to

'Windows is loading files' with a white progression bar moving across the bottom of the screen from L to R

Then windows moving bar appears in the centre of the screen (just as for normal boot up)

and stops just lie it has done before??

The 'System Recovery' screens do not appear?

Me thinks this problem is a bit worse that I first thought!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    John

Have y tried booting up to last known good configuration in the hot key boot menu, if that doesn't work you will need to reload the operating system from the recovery disks.

to reload you just put the discs in the drive and follow the on screen instructions.

The error code BI0HD-4 is a hard disk error. You need to delete all partitions on your hard disk and create new ones and format them
This will solve the problem.

Good luck and have a great day!

    John,

Backing up the files into another HD is the safest thing to do before reformatting your computer. Yes, reformatting it would lose everything, but you could restore the files once you have a back up.

That is the best thing that I could advise you.

    Thank you for your response.

Can I run Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on my HP Compaq Presario SR2170NX PC Desktop

This computer came with Vista Basic. You can upgrade Vista Basic to Windows 7 Premium but it depends on your hardware. Go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor Run the upgrade advisor and follow their advice.

My Windows Vista computer keeps freezing up

Go to start click on Run type in the run dialogue "cmd"
In the black DOS box type CHKDSK C: /f
It will tell you that it is not able to perform this operation until next reboot. Then reboot this will check the disk to ensure you have no bad blocks or sectors and if you do it will fix them. If this does not work look below

2nd Recommendation:

Restore Windows with your CD provide by your OEM.

Warning you will loose data. If this does not resolve the issue you potentially could have a Hard Drive issue and you might need to replace it.

Hi well actualy i am trying to reboot vista home on hp presario machine since two days from the oem dvds, after avg fake positive crash but it can not go further then the blinking curser, pls youguy help...

in that case the windows had suffered too, therefore, the registry is stuggling to load its values making your computer to not go further on booting and giving you a task bar.

run windows upgrade using you windows vista cd, you won't loose your data but the existing windows will be overrided and previous values with errors will be trancated and repaired.

i would like to hear from you,

thanks,

Pixel shader 1.1

Hi.

Your problem is with your graphic card.
Seeing that it shows an error of pixel shader 1.1 i can only guess that either you are using video card provided by compaq.

Only solution get a good graphic card.
I suggest one from nvidia.
