Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

1 Answer

I have replaced the hard drive and the computer is doing the same thing. I have what looks like ink spots on the monitor that bleed together and eventually the screen goes completely black If the startup disc is working, I don't know because I can't see anything.

Hi,
The problem is because of a bad inverter cable or bad cfl tube of the LCD . Haddrive is unrealted to the problem you are facing . You can connect an external monitor to the laptop and press Fn+F8 key to toggle the display on it . If the external monitor shows the video . You would have to get the LCD services otherwise its the video card causing the problem

Thanks for using fixya

LCD monitors do best at their native resolution. There might be 2x2 pixels per spot at that resolution. Once you change the resolution, you might have 2.7 x 2.7 pixels per spot (merely an example). Although a resolution might fit well, at 3x3 or 4x4 pixels, all the other resolutions might look out of focus as each character bleeds over into an adjacent pixel.

The 16:9 aspect ratios are the only ones that will work correctly with this monitor; others will show black at the top and bottom or left and right, or images will be too tall or too wide.

The resolutions you should try are 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 or 800 x 600. When I look at resolutions available for my 16:9 ratio monitor, those are the three that are bold.. others are available, but would not show the high quality display.

There are also buttons on the front of the monitor to adjust the display left/right, up/down, re-size, focus, brightness, etc.. A change there could make a difference too.

Blue ink spot on monitor

That is not an ink spot, that indicates the LCD panel is cracked and the "ink" is the liquid parts of the "liquid crystal display" LCD that is coming out from the broken glass. When you have a broken LCD panel you just need to get a new monitor, the panels are not repairable and to replace one will cost almost as much as a new monitor.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?

HP C4280 hasn't worked for months now and hardly been used - message comes up saying ink cartridge is empty when it isn't. I'm not an expert but a couple of experts have looked at it and various things...

Remove the ink cartridge.
Place it, bottom-down, on a wet paper-towel.
How much ink is "pulled" from the ink-cartridge.
Move to a different spot on the paper-towel,
and touch it again.

If you see "less" ink, or none at all, then it is an EMPTY cartridge. Refill it, or replace it.

Dell dimension 2400 diskette drive 0 seek failure

Check your BIOS setting to see if it detects the hard drive (Primary disk 0). If it can't detect the hard drive then the hard drive maybe faulty. Open the case unpluge the IDE cable from the hard drive and reconnect it again, also unplug the IDE cable at the motherboard and reconnect it again including the power connector on the hard drive.
There maybe an option to test the hard drive in the BIOS, if so use it to test the hard drive.
If the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace it and install Windows, the various device drivers and your programs to get a functioning computer again.
You might consider buying a new computer (it will be faster & better than the old Dell) and you have your new monitor to go with it.

Replace the screen hinges

LOOK UNDER NIETH THE FEET OF THE COMPUTER AND YOU MAY FIND SOME SCREW SLOTS, OR A MANUFACTURE LABEL IS PLACED OVER A SCREW HOLE TO KEEP PEOPLE OUT OF THE COMPUTER.
LOOK IN THE HARD DRIVE, BATTERY AREA, COOLING FAN AREA FOR EXTRA SCREWS,
THEY ARE SNEAKY WHERE THEY HIDE THE SCREW HOLES AT

LAST BUT THEY MAYBE SNAPPED TOGETHER AAND VERY HARD TO TAKE APART.

I get pink spots on my laptop

This is known as bleeding in LCD .you can try to update video drivers or try to connect external monitor (any normal desktop monitor) and see if same thing happens on external monitor then most probably it is the video card if on external monitor works fine then it is issue with LCD .if system is in warranty then get in touch with dell support

Let me know if this helps
