Seagate/Maxtor has hard drive tools that can recertify your hard drive. Maxblast with powermax or segate tools. Recertification tests the hard drive without corrupting contents.

I would download these and test the hard drives with the manufacturers software instead of software made for generic devices.

I ran a generic diagnostic on a WD 40 gig hd, 15min into it it failed diagnostics, got an RMA from WD sent it back and I tracked results.

They had it 2 min before sending it in for repair. I downloaded their Software and tested another wd drive, 45 secs it took to detect problems, generic software took 22min.

try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
good luck

Seek rate problem in Seagate 200 GB

Hey, I recommend you test the harddrive with seagates own tools.

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

I recommend the dos version.

Also try active smart
http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/index.html

I would recommend backing up all the data from the drive, and then if the drive still has problems You should send it for warranty repairs. Shouldnt cost a thing.

You can also take it to a local pc repair shop to get all the data copyed and then sent to warranty service if nessasary it will cost thought if you do it via a shop.
