SOURCE: Maxtor external hard drive

I'd first check the unit on a second computer. If it does the same thing, then you likely have a defective unit

SOURCE: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB External Drive Does not show up on my computer

Have you checked that your External HD get enough power?
My Maxtor Onetouch 4 mini came with a cable with two USB plugs. It works fine with one plug in my Macbook, but requires both two to work in older PowerBook G4.
This is probably because older Mac is not feeding enough amps to USB output.
Or then there is something else wrong.

the hard disk interface could be broken, open the hard disk case and use it as an internal hard disk as a slave in a computer to save your data

SOURCE: I can't delete files from my Maxtor 3200 external hard drive

The other comments are not the easiest way to free up space on the drive. The reason you aren't seeing a change in free space is because of a drive error (probably unplugged without unmounting). So First open up disk utilities and fix the hard drive (should only take 1-2 min). After the drive is fixed select erase free space (zero out data is fine for now). This usually takes about 20 min for me with a 120 gig hard drive. This allows you to have the free space without having to move all of those files around (which for me would be a problem because I have 100 gigs used on my drive, which would take forever).

External HDD no longer recognized by new win7 PC

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked. I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

I installed from original CD and my computer running Vista does not find maxtor ll external HD. Is it compatable with Vista? why does it not find the drive?

Start "Device Manager".
Make sure that the USB devices are "ready" and "enabled".
Then, connect the external USB device.

Can you try the Maxtor external device in some *OTHER* notebook?
If it does not work, then the Maxtor device has a problem.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Maxtor OneTouch 4 500GB External USB 2.0 and cannot access it. My computer does show only icon with now information

It is a bit boring and I do not know why it should be but for some reason your computer and new hard drive do not strike it off initially, just like other new-comer situations. Just keep on trying.
With your computer on, plug in external drive and switch on, it should then give a signal to your computer that a new device has been added. This provided that you are running ';Windows millennium, xp later DOS.
It seems to me that The Maxtor Being a "removable device" needs to be unplugged and plugged in again whenever you restart your computer, Perhaps this is what is happening, However as in my case I continued to do this until until the my computer got to rely on the new hard drive so much it could not run without it.
Good luck

Simple you need to update your bios by downloading bios updates for you motherboard. Then it should recognise your HDD. The yellow triange just means your mboard does not have the necessary drivers to recognise the device. thanks
