Question about Tomtom GO 700 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

TomTom Go 700 no sound.

Hi, I can't get any sound out of my Go700. (it just stopped) I installed the latest software (not Maps) via TomTom Home. It made no difference, it was then returned to TomTom UK under warranty, they returned it saying they could find no problem with it, and to be fair it was once again working. Now after sitting on my desk in its protective bag for about a week unused but fully charged waiting for my son to pick it up, it has once again stopped working. I am at a loss if I can't find a simple solution it will have to go back to TomTom again. Not very good seeing as it's not been used yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, sorry for my ignorance but I haven't got a clue of what your talking about. I haven't "paired" it with anything. Also it lost Direction sounds etc: before loading software vers 7.162.
    Thanks.

Apparently go700 loses sound when you upgrade software to vers.7.162

You need to remove the pairing.

When you did the paring did you go "Bluetooth-My devices-New device" and then the paring?
Is so try removing it and paring again but this time go "Bluetooh-Handsfree-My Handsfree-New Handsfree"

Pairing means associating a device with Bluetooth Authentication. You need to remove your headphones from phone settings, as described above. If you upgrade software to vers.7.162 that is what always happens. If you have more troubles than just headphones and other external devices, then the other solution will be downgrading software to an earlier version. But you need to have or find the download of an earlier software version. If you do not have it you may need to contact factory customer support.

Most likey you will fix the problem if you remove all paired bluetooth devices from Bluetooth-My devices-New device. For example, if you paired it to a Nokia phone, you will need to remove the nokia from bluetooth devices. Same for all devices, then install them back.

Here are instructions to bring your tomtom to an earlier software version, in case you cannot fix it by remove paired devices.

Free maps downlolad

If/when you've just purchased a (brand) new TomTom GPS, you can register it (at the TomTom.com website) and download the latest map (for your device) .... free ... as part of the latest map guarantee.
Whenever you connect your GPS to the TomTom website (via TomTom HOME), you'll get (free) updates to your current map version - ... but they are NOT new versions of the maps.
To get new versions of your (current) map, you'll need to purchase the update (e.g. online, on the TomTom website). Upon paying for it, you will get the activation codes, etc. for you to download, validate and install the maps.

If your GPS has lifetime maps, (after you have registered), you'll be able to connect (via TomTom HOME) to get the latest map release, without requiring any code/password.

It may help if you regularly get the latest satellite positions (for the next 7 days) - QuickGPSfix data (via TomTom HOME).

My tomtom go 700 is about 5 years old and i need to update the maps how do i start?

1.First of all check that TOMTOM actually still support this product and only perform updates using a wired network connection - WIFI can drop out and corrupt the downloads
2.Then see if they actually are supplying a new map for the 700
3.Without activating TOMTOM Home, plug your GO700 into your PC and let it recognise the 'drive assignment'
4.Take a FULL backup of all files on the TOMTOM 2Gb disk on your PC NOTE: this is totally separate and additional to any backups you might make with TOMTOM Home.
5.Disconnect your TOMTOM
6.Start your TOMTOM Home software and perform an update check from the 'help' drop down menu
7.Once you have this updated connect your TOMTOM
8.Perform a full backup again with the TOMTOM Home software
9.Search using TOMTOM Home for any GO700 application software updates and install these (NOTE - ONLY INSTALL THE APPLICATION UPDATES)
10.Reboot your GO700 to make sure that it works with any application updates
11.Re-connect your TOMTOM and this time perform a search for map updates to purchase and follow the instructions.
12.It is very likely that TOMTOM Home will say that there is not enough space on the drive to install the new map, it will follow an automatic process to remove your old map and then install the new one that you have purchased on lne from TOMTOM.
13. If Home has installed your new map correctly, when you log off and disconnect your GO700 it should then initialise - the long time bar rebuidling the maps and then start up normally. It can be necessary to reset your GO700 using the rest button under the base.

GOOD LUCK, This is currently a very messy process but one which seems to work for recovering the GO700 in the event of a failure, TOMTOM have been hopeless for me in getting any maps installed on a GO700, so this is my way of getting round their lousy support service.

Upload latest western europe map v7.20 to TOMTOM 700 not possible

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.

GO700

STEP 1

Connect your TomTom to your computer via USB and open up your Windows Explorer and go to the drive. (It will be listed as TOMTOM (E) or some other drive letter).

Copy the Yellow Folders one by one to your PC. Ideally, save all the folders under a new folder that you name.

You may find that the folder ttntools and gns may not be copied. This is o.k. if they aren't.

STEP 2

Format your Tomtom via MY Computer.

STEP 3

Copy the Yellow Folders from the backup you made in STEP 1 back to the TomTom.

STEP 4

Open TomTom Home
Click on Upate Now.
Install the latest update onto your TomTom.
Once installed, switch your TomTom off, then disconnect if from the PC.

Thats it. From now on, make a full backup using TomTom Home prior to any updates.

Also note, that copying all the files will take some time.
