U can enable department code for colour print, enable "no limit black", where user print colour only prompt for department code. All this can be done under User Function --> Department Management

The Density Sensor is located inside the right upper door and senses the colour calibration pattern for each colour formed on the transfer drum during a calibration cycle. Press GO. Hi, Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing. Unless you have selected "print in black & white only" your printer will "mix" the coloured inks with the black, also check the printer options to ensure you are not using the photographic quality as this will use inks very rapidly. You need to consider a couple of things, firstly the official line: Epson (and all other inkjet manufacturers) do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. The 2nd unofficial line is that it is a win-win situation for manufacturers. Firstly they get to cut down on costly warranty call outs for blocked heads (replacement printers, technician manhours, etc) and secondly they get to sell lots more inks (Ka-ching!). If you really want to print black text only (and save cash on price per-print) then a mono-laser printer is the best way as they can now be bought at inkjet prices.
Assuming that you are using the same paper and have not changed any of the consumables you should do the following: 1.Clean LED head with lens cleaner or soft tissue.
Remove the toner cartridge and give it a few shakes then reinstall it.
The Toner Could be low so Change toner cartridge.
4.Make sure that the paper is not damp as this will cause fading and poor quality printing and images.
The image drum may have been light contaminated so remove it from the printer and store it in a totally dark place for several hours then reinstall it.
If the image drum is dirty then wipe it very gently with soft tissues, being careful not to scratch it.
Open the top cover and check to be sure that each toner cartridge is fully seated and that each toner cartridge lock lever is pushed all the way back.
Press the top cover release latch and open, then close, the cover.
Check MEDIA MENU – TRAY1 MEDIA TYPE and set as required. Do the same for TRAY2 and MPT.
Check MEDIA MENU – TRAY1 MEDIA WEIGHT and set as required. Do the same for TRAY2 and MPT.
Possibly set the value of media weight in the menu to the next heaviest one.
Check PRINT MENU – RESOLUTION setting and set to 600 x 1200DPI
Check PRINT MENU – TONER SAVE MODE and make sure this is OFF
Check PRINT MENU – MONO PRINT SPEED and make sure this is set to MIXED SPEED
Check the COLOUR MENU – DENSITY CONTROL and set this to AUTO
Check the COLOUR MENU – AUTO DENSITY and set this to EXECUTE
Check the COLOUR MENU – CMY 100% DENSITY is set to ENABLE if you want a glossier black finish.
If you are sure the diagnostics show the colours correctly, one thing I would look at is to see if it had a colour profile set
up for it.Don't know whether this printer normally has, if it has not I would suggest reinstalling the driver. To check - Start/Printers & Faxes/ Rt click on printer then properties, look under Colour management tab.
