    is it in hybernate mode?

  • dottie813 Feb 07, 2010

Done that several times. The 4 light buttons on the upper left side only had the green external power light on. I think the 2nd light would be the hard drive which has not come on at all. Worked fine last night

    What is the DIMM modules?

Where is a wristband found? I'm traveling and don't know what this is and don't want to drive around asking for something others don't know what it is either. And it's Sunday.

What is the ribbon connector? How do I access the graphics card?

If this issue is serious, how can I download my stuff from the computer so I can at least keep working?

The computer is about a year old.

  • dottie813 Feb 07, 2010

Ok. I noticed there is a history of screen failure, for whatever reason, with the Acer. Hope the company is working on it or doing something. I'll try what you suggest. Thanks Right now I need to drop off online. If these suggestions don't work, how do I get more follow-up?

Ok.. There are several models in the Aspire One series which one is it that you have? Just wanted to check if its got a VGA port among other specifications so please provide the model number.

Ok I got the specs. It does have a VGA port. Ok what we have to figure out now is to see if its a display related issue or the Video Card related issue(Its got a 128MB quadro). Connect the laptop to an external display such as a TV monitor, LCD monitor etc., and press the display swap hot key. See if the image appears and let me know.

Fn+F5 is the display hot key. It is used to toggle between displays. You will have to connect an external display before you can use this feature.

No not Hibernate. Hibernate means saving the computer state and shutting down. Do you mean standby? I don't think so. Anyways shut it down and power it on again. That would eliminate the standby possibility.

If its a hard drive issue you should atleast see the laptop starting up(The Acer logo and stuff) before it returns an error message. I am afraid you are gonna have to take it apart and
1)Remove the DIMM modules rub the end you plug into the the laptop with an eraser and then put it back. Why? Just making sure that the module ends are not oxidized that happens sometimes.
2)Check the ribbon connector that goes from the laptop's graphics card to display
PS: You must wear an ESD wrist strap before trying this or you may risk damaging the ICs on the boards or ram module. So if you don't have it get the wrist strap before you try it.

DIMM modules are nothing but RAM module.
ESD wrist strap can be purchased at any major electronics store.
The ribbon connector is a connector that is responisble for producing image on the laptop. The graphics card is located under the keyboard. You will have to take off all the screws under the laptop, remove the strip with the power button and then take off the keyboard to access it.
To get your data of the laptop you will have to remove the hard drive from the laptop(Also found under the keyboard) and connect it to you computer using a SATA cable(Most computers have an option for SATA connector these days). Connect it to the desktop and it will appear as a drive in my computer. Copy your data off it to your computer.
If you find all this too hot to handle, then a computer repair store can fix the problem for you which may be a good option if you don't have prior experience fixing electronics.

You can just post the comments here to follow up. Don't accept it till its fixed though. If you do then you may not be able to post further comments on it. Don't reject either coz you may have to start from the beginning with another another expert.

It doesn't show the image from computer, the screen still black but the power light appears on.

Connect another monitor to the PC and confirm that the PC is working , specially the display drivers/card. If so the fault is only with the monitor and it can be related to power supply issue, a backlight inverter circuit shorting or a fault in the main board., all of this mightt require a good probe with the use of manual. So please check this out and confirm if the fault is with the monitor or the PC.

That is because the settings on the power are set for the monitor to go to sleep if not in use.. It is a very quick and easy fix.. Just right click anywhere on the desktop that doesn't have any icons, the display properties box will appear, then click on screen saver under monitor power click on power, there you could set the monitor never to turn off... Let me know if this solved the problem and good luck..

My dell latitude d800 dosnt start. no cursor no splash screen ..only lightning some buttons..

Hi,

If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.

Here are some steps that you can try. One of these may work on your case.

1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left on the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)

2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor.

3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.

4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the laptop not to POST.

5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Device could not start

what device? is *********** board won't start? Or a hardware doesn't start like ram or your printer
If the problem is your motherboard check all your hardwares and connectors like this:
  1. If the motherboard won't start if you click the power button check the LED(the small light bulb on your motherboard) if its glowing. If not, check the connector of your power supply or check the power supply if its working by looking its fan if revolving.
  2. If you push the button and there's a sign of power but didn't start up that will appear on your screen check the connection of your monitor screen to your desktop computer. If it's connected, remove your RAM from the motherboard and insert it to another memory slot to check if it's broken.
  3. Last, if you push the power button and here 1 short beep but the boot screen didn't appeared from your screen check your graphic card. Remove the graphic card and re-insert it again to its graphic card slot and plug in your monitor connector to it. If it still remain that way, buy a new graphic card.

When i power my moniter it shuts itself off in ten second by itself

Either your computer is sending a signal it doesn't support (too high resolution or refresh rate), or the monitor has power issues. Try starting the computer and going into the setup screen. If the monitor stays on, it's a resolution/refresh issue in the OS. If it doesn't stay on, it'll be cheaper to get a new monitor.

- try to plug an external monitor on your laptop
- if you can see a screen on the external monitor, then you have a faulty LCD
- if you don't see anything on the external monitor, then you have a faulty motherboard

All across the screen a lot of black colored dashes are appearing. everything is fine but these dashes doesn't look good

Try selecting Auto Adjust from the monitor's on screen display. Should be accessible from the buttons on the front of the monitor.

Also try downloading and using the latest drivers for the monitor.

Also try checking the monitor's technical specifications and making sure that the refresh rate on the computer is set to the optimal refresh rate per the monitor's manufacturer.
