    Thx ardmax,

I am afraid the information on the disk is gone. I have tried DW...but now my Mac cannot even see the drive. BTW, it is an external 600 GB.

It sound like a problem with the drive.
Try to see if a utility like Disk Warrior, or Drive Genius can help you, otherwise it may be necessary to replace the internal drive.

Let me know.

Wow well I mostly believe this is hard ware failure, but lets try a few things first..

1.) connect the drive to another system and see if it works..

2.) open up the unit and see what type of drive it uses,,
ensure the cables are intact of if its possible change the
drive..

If those fail, get another external unit and if its possible change the drive the unit has inside it..

IF you are unable to do the above or if it fails you will need to take it to a technician because

1.) To recover the files on the drive
2.) to determine if its recoverable or repairable..
3.) to repair it if possible
4.) to transfer the files to another drive if necessary..

If you wish to try to repair it (if necessary) i can attempt to walk you through it , but the risk is you can cause more harm then actually fix it.. Le me know what you decide.

When trying to back up files on Mac G4, I encountered a disk reading error. went to initalize, then to verify. error says Verify and Repair disk “disk2s1” ** /dev/disk2s1 Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block:...

You don't say what Mac OS version you're running or many other details, but try running Disk Utility or Disk First Aid, normally in the Utilities folder, and see if it can repair anything.

It sounds like the drive is failing or has already failed.

PS: That Mac G4 is well past its prime. :-(

My mac is not recognizing my disk from my hard drive

Open Disk Utility (as I'm sure you already have) and select the main partition of the problematic disk on the left side, which should be titled disk1s10. In the First Aid tab, click the "Repair Disk" button on the bottom right hand corner of the window. *Note: If this is the current boot disk, you will have to boot off of the Mac OSX Install Disk by inserting it and holding the "C" key while it is turning on. Select your language and choose Utilities --> Disk Utility from the menu on the top of the screen, then following the above instructions.

Error -61

First off, anything LACIE is bottom of the barrel. Don't take it personal, but if i have a nickel for every Lacie D2 drive I've had to recover...oh wait, sometime i got more than what people paid for them to recover what was on them........think about it for a second. Error -61 is a bad master directory block. The drive has a directory, like any book or "volume". It's where the drive stores the information based on the location of content on the drive. Which means your drive will fail soon because it will not be able to retrieve what you are putting on it, because it is internally failing.

Recognized - but no mount

Don't know about the MAC part, but an I/O error implies that the either the source file cannot be read or the destination drive will not write. This is usually an indicator of a bad HDD. To check, I would attempt to connect the external drive to another computer. If it still gives the same indication, contact the drive manufacturer about data recovery recommendations

Mount.... sound like you got a Mac... Don't use the Mac sugested fix. The lacie Website has many revovery software options and Third party software is very good at that as well

I would try that first or try to contact a lacie tech and/or a mac tech.

If this is helpful please email and notify fixya. Thanks

LaCie 160 GB Hard Drive

Always start with the simple stuff so check the disks power supply is actually supplying power. If you're in the UK (and in some EU countries) the plug will have a fuse in it, this is also the case with some modern US electrical devises so check the fuse. If the disk is receiving power, unplug it and let it cool down for an hour before trying again. Have you tried both a disk repair and a permissions repair? Odd as it may sound you can sometimes fix a problem like this by running a permissions repair on your Macintosh HD. Next, if you have any third-party maintenance tools installed run complete maintenance on the system as well as the external disk. If non of this helps run the firmware updater for this drive, you can download it from www.lacie.com/uk/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10053 even if it is unable to update the drive's firmware this will give you more detailed troubleshooting information, so post the result here.

Help with big extreme disk partition access.

Don't know what operating system your using but in Windows 7 and up it's easy to partition any drive even while windows is running.
Go to --> Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Disk Management and right click - set the size.
You can change it any time as long as whats in it isn't bigger than the size you want to make it. I have a 1 TB in this computer and that's how I did it after discovering that my old drive tools didn't work on this.
For any info on this procedure (or darn near anything you can think off) you can always go to youtube for step by step instructions.
Just watch a few first because some people are better teachers than others.
