Hi,
During the Toshiba logo press the f12 key to select the boot device and select the cd/dvd drive as your boot device.

What is the brand and make of your motherboard.

In order to boot you should have either one or more of the following
(a) Bootable CD drive with disk
(b) Bootable Hard disk with OS
(c) Bootable USB stick if your mother board is new

You can select the boot order in BIOS

How to boot with usb flash drive. detailed please, I'm trying to many diff ways nothing working, bios is the only thing on comp.

It is possible to boot from a USB drive....but only if the USB drive has been formatted as bootable, in the same way that OS CDs and DVDs are bootable media. You have to have an operating system either on the hard drive or on the flash drive in order to boot the computer. The BIOS is simply a "Basic Input-Output System" that interfaces the computer hardware to the OS, whatever media it is on. That is why you have to select the boot device and the boot device priority in the BIOS during setup, so it can direct itself to the bootable OS. Once you have installed an OS, then all will work fine. Until then, you will continue to have issues. Normally, with Window-based systems (you don't say what OS you are trying to use), you would insert the bootable Windows setup disk in the CD/DVD drive, ensure the BIOS was set to boot to CD/DVD first, and start the computer. The windows setup file would load itself and start the OS install process. It may even be necessary to partition and format the hard drive during this evolution, but the setup program would lead you through that as well. I have seen Windows setup files loaded to USB sticks, but they require a special process to generate so the BIOS sees the USB as bootable.

Maybe the CD is faulty or is not bootable. Can you try it in another PC or get another CD.

My laptop comes on asking for me to insert boot disk, but I don't have one and it tells me to contact system adminstrator

follow the steps:
1. first go to the bios setup. check the primary & Secondary boot device setting. if primary setting is CD-ROM then secondary should be HDD. (at the beginning press & hold F2/F9/F12 or DEL any one to go to the bios settings)
2. if still not working then ur windows or OS has crashed and need reinstallation. for that find a bootable CD of the desired OS, & install.
if u r not getting the OS CD/DVD pls contact nearest service centre or service engineer, they should one.
All the best.

Cannot boot from cd and run setup

When booting, the writing on the black screen should give you a couple of options akin to

Press F2 to edit boot options or
Press "Del" to enter setup. (bios)

You can use either, but you need to set your CD/DVD disk drive as the first boot option.

System can't bootup any cd or dvd

Do you have a Win98 install CD? If yes, you should be able to tell it to boot with CD-ROM support.....then use xp disk to load or install your OS.......I'm doing that right now on a different system. It will format your drive first....which takes a looooooooooooong time, however, it is worth it.

No boot sector on hard disk - No bootable devices - strike F1 to

AFAIK all XP disks were bootable so maybe check your bios options.
If they are correct and it still does not boot them goto bootdisk.com and download the floppy setup disks for XP. You could then set your laptop to boot from floppy and install xp from there.
