Question about Marvel (6CAR) Refrigerator
For example, plug it in on Monday to use on Tuesday, then unplug it on Tuesday evening. Then plug it in again on Thursday morning to use on Friday, then unplug on Friday evening, etc. The refrigerator is located in the kitchen of a local senior center. The new center president says that unplugging/plugging on the refrigerator on a day-to-day basis should be done to save energy. Are the energy savings going to be significant since it must be unplugged/replugged at least twice each week? Will this harm the appliance over time?
Unplugging the unit is not required. Just turn it off with the control. Every time you turn it iff for an extended period of time and turn in it back on it has to pull temperature down which will use more energy than mornal for a short period. If it is being left off for more than a day you should see some savings but just turning it down to a warmer termperature (say a 1 or 2) then turning it back up to normal (say 3 to 5) will result in the same of not more savings (unless you are leaving it iff for more than two days at a time) and it will recover temperature faster (about 4 hours vs 8 hours). This will not harm the appliance over time.
