Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
It handles up to 2 x 2GB soDIMM modules. However, available memory will vary with operating systems; Windows 32bit supports 2GB max. for Applications out of the box and can be tweaked to 3GB.
You'll need a 64bit operating system to use more of the installed memory.

Your computer has a max RAM based on the MB. You can go here and run a scan and it will tell you the MAX on your system, how much is currently installed, what type, etc etc
run the system scanner
