Question about DeLonghi DCM485 Coffee Maker

1 Answer

I have repaired two units (DCM 485) by jumping one of the two thermofuse which failed. I assume this fuse is redundant give there is a second such fuse in-line with the heating element and a thermostatic switch, as well. As a precaution I am telling my customers to shut off the coffeemaker as soon as brewing is finished. Your thoughts on this "fix"? MB Small Appliance Repair.

You should never jumper a thermofuse no matter how convenient it can seem. All your customers have to do is forget once and you are liable. If you are a repair person then find the correct fuse or replace the unit. Safety is above all in every case.

Replace fuses properly? i bought fast acting replacement fuse and sparked a light 2 seconds after powering up. why?/fast acting fuse? Or?

If you put the new fuse in the same way/place the old one was, then that is a non issue.
Assuming that you are replacing with the fuse they spec, fast acting/slow blow and the correct amperage/voltage..then losing a fuse that quickly indicates somethings failed inside, shorted to ground.
That would either be repair or replace the unit.

Where is thermofuse and thermistor located

The thermofuse and the thermistor is located in the fusing unit.Open the front cover, remove 1 screw and pull out the fusing unit(the left exit cover must open).Remove 2 screws and the unit front cover.Remove 2 screws and the upper cover, remove the harness from the harness guide, unplug the connectors of the two thermistors.Remove one screw, shoulder screw and the harness guide, remove one screw and the thermoswitch cord, remove 2 screws and the temperature detector assy.Using a soft cloth dampened with alcohol or oil, wipe clean the 2 thermistors.Verify a continuity of the thermoswitch and clean using a soft cloth dampened with alcohol, wipe clean the thermoswitch.99% the problem is a thermofuse.

The transformer is dead and I can't find a new one. Denon DCM-30

You want to go to Mouser Electronics. They have thousands of different transformers. They have never failed me yet. Since you know you need a transformer I will assume you know which one you need.

PCM Troubleshooting Check light on with no code reader power

You can't jump the connector to get codes on OBD II. (Pre 1996) Try hooking back up you code reader. If it doesn't communicate, check the fuse for the cig lighter. This fuse should also power up the diagnostic plug.

Scan coming in all black with DocketPort 485

The first thing that you should try is to calibrate the scanner. If you don't have the calibration paper you can use a blank white 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. This should clear it up. If it fails calibration after repeated tries you most likely have broken the lens or the image sensor is no longer working. If that is the case then there isn't much you can do i would suggest contacting the manufacturer and hoping that unit is still in warranty.

GE MicroWave JES1136WL01 died while defrosting.

Mine has the same problems. After removing top cover, check fuse on power supply board (mine was OK). Then check thermo fuse located to the far left under the top cover( 2 black wires going to it) using a meter. I then jumped this fuse to see if this was the only problem. I hope to find a replacement thermofuse at the local hardware store.
