Question about Computers & Internet

My machine keeps cutting out and judging by the temperature of the casing, I think it's because it is overheating. Is there any way I can check whether the fan is faulty or maybe the thermocouple (or whatever the sensor switch is)?

Electric motor keeps cutting out

There may be a thermal protector placed internally within the motor or motor-compressor to protect the motor and motor winding's components from dangerous overheating that can cause motor failure.
This overheating generally occurs when the motor is overloaded, a bearing seizes up, something locked the motor shaft from turning, or the motor simply fails to start properly. A failure to start may be caused by faulty start winding's in a motor.
The thermal protector consists of one or more heat-sensing elements integral with the motor or motor-compressor and an external control device. The thermal protection is in place to turn the motor off when excessive heat is generated within the motor circuitry and keep it from burning up the motor.
These thermal protectors are reset when the motor cools to a safe operating temperature. There is usually a visible red button located on the wiring side of the motor, opposite of the motor shaft, but not always. In some cases, these buttons are reset manually.

What cause car to shut off after a overheating

You have a sensor device that protected your engine in case overheating, sometimes MIL iluminated with a Engine Temperature warining light (some makes and models).

If this is the case, I suggest to check thermostat, and that the cooling fan are working correctly; test engine temperature sensor and coolant level.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

My motherboard keeps on overheating @ 70C and over plz what must i do?

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

If the overheating is not due to hardware issue, faulty components, you can control the temperature by using Heat sinks and Temperature controlling fans, and by regulating a proper Air flow to the unit. For this, you can also use Cooler Master casing specially designed for high end purposes, or can use any such available brand to control the temperature...

Crownvictorias2006 overheating all the time

Do you think that it's overheating because the temperature light is on? If so, then it's possible that you have a bad temperature sensor and not an overheating engine.
Look for other signs of engine overheating :
1. Sluggish engine operation.
2. Detonation upon acceleration (pinging).
3. Rough, uneven engine idle.
4. Coolant boiling in overflow tank.
If your vehicle is experiencing these symptoms, then overheating is indicated. One of the most common cases of overheating is a bad thermostat. Another common problem is a faulty cooling fan or fan circuit. The cooling fan can be checked by running the engine at operating temperature and turning on the AC control. if the fan does not come on, then a problem with the fan circuit is indicated. The thermostat can be checked by placing a cooking thermometer on the motor near the upper radiator hose where it attaches to the motor. the temperature should not go above 225deg. If it does, then replace the thermostat. If the temperature stays at or below this rating, then replace the temperature sensor. I hope that this information helps you with your problem and thank you for using Fixya.com.

WARNING : Be very careful when working around cooling systems when the engine is at operating temperature. DO NOT open the radiator cap (if equipped) or even the overflow tank cap when the system is hot. Always wear safety glasses. Remember that electric cooling fans can operate at any time, even after the engine is off. Keep hands away from fan when working in the engine compartment.

I have a 1995 chevy caprice classic and it keeps overheating, I've changed the thermostat, water pump and I noticed my fans weren't on at all but when I unplug the water pump the fan cuts on.

Your cooling fan relays are controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM). What you are unplugging is probably the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT). The ECM will default to "fans on" if it loses the circuit to the ECT. (It loses it when you unplug it) This is why the fans come on when you unplug the connector. The engine might be overheating because the ECT may be malfunctioning and "lying" to the computer about what the actual engine temperature is. If this is the case, the ECM is not turning the fans on because it doesn't "think" it is hot enough to need them. Then again, you could have a faulty temperature gauge that is making you think the engine is overheating when it is not. (If it is boiling over, then it is OBVIOUSLY overheating and you can just disregard that last statement.)
Anyway, the only way to properly diagnose the cooling system on your vehicle is to access the live engine data and look to see what temperature the ECM is seing while you take an actual reading with an infrared thermometer or a pyrometer and compare the two. Yhe thermometer or prometer reading should be within about 5 degrees of what the ECM "thinks" the temperature is. If there is a larger error than this then the coolant temp sensor should be replaced. If the reading is within this range and the temperatur gauge reads hot when it is not, then the gauge should be replaced.
Since the fans come on when you unplug the sensor, you know that all the fan circuits are working and the ECM is capable of controlling them, so it almost has to be a computer INPUT problem, not an OUTPUT problem.

Why does my 1971 vw beetle keep overheating? THe car keeps cutting out - AA identified as overheating and suggedted change ignition coil and ckheck ignition timing. have done this and the car still...

Make sure your timing is right on, as per your distributor specs. Make sure the valves are adjusted correctly and that your carb is not running too lean, as all of these things effect temperatures! I don't really think the roof being cut off would effect the overheating a lot. I know that the roofline does help, absolutely, and it was designed very, very well for maximum cooling.

Also makes sure that your rubber seals are good, like the ones that go on the spark plug resistors. I don't think air flow is the issue, you already have louvres. Is your crankshaft degreed pulley smaller than stock - if so, the fan will turn slower than stock. What kind of external oil cooler was added - in front of the fan shroud? Is it over the opening in the fan shroud? I've run one of those for 35 years in Arizona, no overheating. So like others said, also check your timing and your fuel/air for leanness.

Projector keeps cutting off

just in case it is overheating, blow out any dust with canned air and make sure the fans are working. also, keep anything from blocking the vents. if all that is done and it still shuts down, you have a power supply that needs replacing.
