The open tray problem is either a drive motor or drive magnet or a laser issue, If you turn your console off and lay it flat, turn it on,and give it a rap with your knuckles where the center of the disk should be, if the game loads its either the motor is too weak to engage the magnet or the magnet has become detached, either of these need the console opening to fix properly.
If the console won't load its a laser issue, try cleaning with a dvd cleaning disk.
Remember thumbs up if this works.

We can't get to the next level of Skylanders giants.

What do you mean by "no longer being read" ?

If it that error "Disc is unreadable" that is the problem, you have to check your disc, because it might have scratches, dust or some gore that shouldn't be there.

If that is the problem, you should remove whatever is on the backside with warm water and gently rubbing it of with your fingers (not nails!). If you have scratches, and nothing else, then you must either get a new copy of the game or you can try something that might sound very weird, but CAN work.

- Remember that if you try to fix the game by yourself, it's at your own risk! -

If you want to try fixing those scratches you must get some toothpaste, yes toothpaste.

Then you take some of the tootpaste on your finger (remember to not hit the disc with your nails!) and gently rub it over the disc, apply more toothpaste if you can't get it over the whole disc.

When you have done that, you'll get all the toothpaste of the disc, using nothing but warm water.

When that is done, you'll just let it dry, place it on a towel or something like that (with the BACK side up).

And when it is dry, you just put it in your xbox and play the game! It usually work, I've done it with 3-4 games, and all of them worked atleast for 2-3 more weeks. :)

Repair an XBOX Disc or other laser disc

After reading many online complaints about the XBOX 360 scratching a ring around the play side of game discs I went on a hunt for a solution. I wasn't able to find viable solution online but someone told me to try toothpaste to remove the scratches.

Personally I thought toothpaste might be too abrasive so I was able to polish my scratches out using "Wenol Polish". It comes in a blue tube like toothpaste but it's primary use is for polishing car parts and metals. Make sure to use the super soft version with a very soft cloth like micro fiber or a lint free optics cloth.

Take the cloth and wrap it around your index finger. Place a small amount of the Wenol on the cloth and make small circular motions over the scratches. Do about 1/3 of the disc at a time. Use light or medium pressure at most.

It should take about 15 or 20 minutes until you see the scratches fade away. Try your disc again and see if it reads properly in your machine. If not, return to polishing until it works.

CDS slipping when playing.

Try the disc in another CD / DVD player.

It is important to make sure that the DVD itself is the problem, and not the CD / DVD player.

Cleaning a CD / DVD player is a much more intricate process that requires device-cleaning hardware.

Lay the disc artwork-side down so that you can easily clean the playing side.

You should always avoid setting a disc playing-side down to prolong its lifespan.

Gently rub the disc with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove all traces of dust and fingerprints. Always rub a disc from the center toward the outer rim in a light motion to prevent any other damage.

Apply a light amount of toothpaste to a cotton wool ball and gently rub the disc from the inside out.

You may need a few drops of water to make the toothpaste spread easily.

Cover the entire surface area of the disc, or at least the area that is scratched.

Toothpaste is a gentle abrasive that works well for fixing simple scratches.

Clean off the toothpaste with the cloth, once again rubbing from the inside of the disc toward the rim.

Try not to push too hard to prevent further damage.

Apply other kinds of light abrasives such as baking soda or glass cleaner if the sound is still distorted.

Remove the solution with the same gentle rubbing technique.

Purchase a disc-cleaning spray from a local video or electronics store.

These sprays are effective in removing any grime from the disc and filling small scratches.

hope this helps

Get scratches out of gamecube disk

Both scratches and dust can affect the playability of a game disc. Cleaning it can usually do the trick. Several techniques will clean the disc and make it useful again, saving time and money that would have been spent on a new game. 1. Before you apply disc cleaner, wipe with a microfiber cloth or other soft fabric. Wipe from the center of the disc outward. Don't wipe your Wii game disc in a circular motion, as this can damage it further. Test it to see if it works. 2. Rinse the disc with water if the first step didn't work. This will get rid of any oils that have gotten on the disc. If you see gunk that won't easily rinse off, use your fingers and a light dish soap to wipe it off underneath the stream of water. Remember to wipe from inside out, the light soap will serve as disc cleaner. 3. Dry the disc. First, shake off any excess water. Then set it out to air dry. Don't use a cloth for this step as that could add little fibers that may cause trouble. Once the disc is completely dry, try it in your Nintendo Wii to see if the disc repair worked. 4. Use rubbing alcohol with a cotton swab and gently coat the disc. Allow to dry. The disc will dry much quicker when wet with alcohol than it did with water. Still, you should wait until it's completely dry before you try the game disc in your Wii. By now, your disc should be working. Most disc read errors on Wiis are due to dust and dirt, rather than an actual scratch. 5. Spread toothpaste on the disc. This disc repair method should be used as a last resort. Using plain, white toothpaste, rub a quarter-sized amount in a circular motion with your fingers on the disc. Cover the reflective side of the disc completely. There should be a thin layer over the game disc when you're done. 6. Let the toothpaste sit on the disc until it is dry. This shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, although it depends on how much toothpaste you used. 7. Run the disc under warm water, rubbing the toothpaste off with your thumb. Make sure you get it all off and the disc is thoroughly rinsed. Allow to air dry. Then try the game.

You can try using toothpaste. I've tried it several times and it has worked for me. Here's how you do it.
  1. Grab a bottle of toothpaste and your disc
  2. Put a good amount of paste on the disc
  3. Take a soft cloth and rub the toothpaste over the disc. Be sure to give it some pressure.
  4. Turn on a sink and wash the toothpaste off your disc
  5. Place disc in Xbox and enjoy

I bought a game but my sons game cube wont read it it just says " the game disc could not be read please read the Nintendo game cube instruction booklet for more info " ? but i don`t have it...

Assuming it's a GameCube game, that means there is either an error in the code on the disc, or the disc may be damaged. Take it back to the store you purchased it from, with receipt in hand, and exchange it. If other games work properly then it's the disc that's the problem. The manual wouldn't help you.

Vice City plays fine, but when i take that out and put in fifa '08, it goes to that configuration screen, with a picture of each memory card, and the disc. If I click the disc, nothing happens

That means the cd is not reading. Carefully clean the disc and put it back in. Start the game and if it comes on again, press the reset button and see if it will plat this time. Might have to do it 2 or 3 times, but if it is going to play, it will come on.

The disc is unreadable

Is it just dusty, or are there scratches?
If it is just dust, clean is with something soft- t-shirts work quite well ni the abscence of anything else.Make sure to clean from the middle to the edges in lines, not circles.
For small scratches, a sometimes very useful solution is toothpaste.Put some toothpaste by the scratch and rub it it, then wash of excess toothpaste and dry the disc. The toothpaste fills in the scratch, leading to a temporary fix.
