Check the windows audio settings from the bottom right , right click , select adjust audio properties , and make sure your microphone is set to it's highest levels , the screech can be caused by feedback so turning down your speakers may help with this. Skype also has audio configuration settings of their own , check the audio settings on skype and configure as required , doesn't sound like a hardware fault tbh

If you put the screen in contact with a desktop, the mic WILL pick up the sound of the fan. Leave the screen attached to the laptop

I have an HP G60-120us notebook pc, running windows XP. I am trying to chat to some one on skype, I can hear them, but they can't hear me. How do I set up the built in mic on my computer.

Go to control panel, look for sounds then there should be a tab that says microphone or input. Raise the volume there. I think another way to do it is by right-clicking the speaker in the taskbar.

I have a terrible backround sound when I am skyping they cannot hear me clearly

you should have an ancillary mic and heaphone socket on the side--try these sockets --its not unheard of for skype to have this problem but if it is excessive try the external mic

Have your mic turned on.

Go to your toolbar, double click on your audio volume. Then click on mixer (if your on vista), Turn on skype audio to max.

Go into Skype:
Tools > Options > Audio Settings
Choose where the mic and audio are coming from, if your using a headset choose front panel or where ever your panel is. Otherwise its set on default.

The microphone is out of order. People cannot hear me when I use Skype, but I can hear them very well.

Click on the Volume icon in the tray in left bottom corner of the screen. Sometimes for no reason the mic gets disbled (on mute). unmute it and see if the mic works.

You need to check if the mic/s is working?
Are you certain the Logitech webcam has a built-in mic?
To check if the mic works go to Start - All programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and test record your voice and play back to check, also try it with the laptop's built-in mic (if it has one) and the Logitech mic.
If both mics work then you have a choice of which one you can use in Skype, most likely the best one would be the Logitech one.

You need to configure your audio settings in Skype.
When you open Skype click on Tools - Options - Audio Settings and click on Select Microphone and select the microphone you are using and save the setting.

If you still have problems get back to me with all details and error messages.
