Question about Dell 5110cn Laser Printer

Dell printer will not install

I have a Toshiba laptop that had a hard drive crash which has been replaced. I have Vista Ultimate and had difficulty getting the 5110CN to install originally. All the other computers on our home network print find but everytime I use the disk the install gets to the end and says there is an error and to restart the computer and try again. I have done this several times to no avail. Any suggestions? The printer is on Ethernet to the router. I have tried connecting directly to the laptop with no success.

I downloaded the new drivers but what do I do with them? The install CD will not install the printer so how do I use the downloaded drivers??

Thanks everyone, I took the TCP/IP settings from the other computer, added those, did a Windows Update to have the printer list updated and then Viola! I work.

Have you tried going to dell.com and getting the Vista drivers?

Here's the link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PRN_LSR_5110CN&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Please note that there are several different things to download.. one of them being a patch... I recommend that you read the documentation carefully before you actually install anything.

Re-contact if you need more help/info.

Good Luck!

For each one of the drivers on that page I linked you to, you can click the NAME (i.e. Dell Driver, Dell Firmware, Dell Hardware, etc.). It will then open a page with the driver description and instructions on what to do with them.
If you have another computer that the printer is working on, I'd suggest you use that computer to bring up the information so that you have the choice to print the info so you have it handy when you go to do the installs.

I'm going to link you to the first one (Dell Driver) --

    http://support.dell.com/support/download...

Each one of those 5 drivers/patches has a page like this one...

Sorry, not going to be super-simple, but it's all there.

Glad you got it up and running... playing w/ the TCP/IP and other network settings was next... I try the easy/obvious solutions first if they seem pertinent.

It sounds like your vista pc is not compatible with the software for your printer so you should check the printer's website to see if there are any updates for it relating to vista compatibility.. most sites have been good about keep this up to date.. make sure you have the most current version of drivers for your printer.. hope this helps..d

there should be a way to extract those drivers from where you saved them.. try double clicking on the file and a box should pop up asking if you want to run or save so choose the run option.. once that is done, then reboot, once rebooted then connect the printer and see what happens.. hope this helps more.. d

I replaced vista with xp on my Satellite L305D-S5895 and now it crashes during xp install. why?

This model Toshiba laptop has a SATA hard drive.

SATA HARD DRIVE - XP INSTALLATION
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

Tip

How to troubleshoot a system that will not boot to the hard drive.

  1. Ensure that there is no diskette in the A: drive if system is equipped with a 1.44 Floppy Diskette Drive. If a disk in the drive, remove it and reboot.
  2. Boot to the BIOS, reset defaults, reboot
  3. If system still will not boot to the hard drive, power off, disconnect all peripheral items (Printer, scanner, external drives and USB drives) reboot.
  4. At this point, boot to Diagnostics partition, or CD (F12 menu on some systems, Some HP systems have Hard drive diags in BIOS, Fn+Power for Dell Portables, CTRL+ALT+D for some Dell Desktops) If the hard drive fails diagnostics, replace the hard drive. If the drive passes diagnostics, it is not a guarantee the drive is good, just no fault was detected.
  5. If the drive passes diags, then see if you can boot to a Windows CD/DVD. If you can't, either remove, turn off in BIOS or disconnect the hard drive, and see if you can boot to the Windows Media. If you can with the HDD disabled/removed/disconnected, again, replace the HDD.
  6. If you can boot to the Windows Media, then go to Recovery Console in XP and run CHKDSK /R (Vista or Windows 7, run the repair my computer option off the menu, this may take multiple passes to fix) If this fails to resolve, then boot back to recovery console and run BOOTCFG /REBUILD (This is already done in Vista/7 in the repair tool)
  7. If that fails, you will most likely be reinstalling Windows. If the Windows install crashes during a file copy, try RAM modules one at a time (Windows install is still the best RAM test we have) If the Windows install still crashes, replace the Hard Drive.

I have a toshiba P205-S6267 laptop with windows vista it had a 120 Gigabyte drive out of the box I installed a 500GB hard drive wastold that this would make the motherboard crash or operating system...

The "worst" that could happen would be that the motherboard would either:

* not recognize/support the "large" disk-drive at all,

* would only be able to access "part" of the disk-space, e.g., the first 128GB or 256GB or 512GB of disk-space.

However, those possibilities only occurred with "older" motherboards.

Given the specifications for your computer: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_P205-S6267.pdf

and the fact that Microsoft Vista is pre-installed, you must have a "recent" motherboard, and it will support any serial-ATA disk-drive (500GB, 1TB, 2TB, ... ) that you can afford to purchase.

Hanging of laptop, when i open twoor more programs

Well, you need more RAM. 1 GB is not enough for Vista Ultimate. Contact Dell to upgrade and add a 2 GB memory module for a total of 3 GB. Apparently, you have 30 GB disk full with the Vista OS and software programs. At some point, I'd like to see you extend your partition for your 160 GB drive so that "C" is much larger than 40 GB. You'll need one-one assistance via FixYa.

I take it you see the hard drive when you boot to vista cd. doing install can you remove partition and then create new partition format and install vista software. have you tried that if so sounds like your hard drive is working and can delete and reset drive partition index. if your crashing in post then you need to push the tab key when toshiba logo appears should switch showing post BIOS boot on screen all text you should try pressing the setup key as soon as you see the num loc light blink on your keyboard the driver is loaded press f2 then tab key to check post boot.
please let me if this helped you.

Laptop blue screens when trying to reinstall vista

The problem might be with the bad sectors on a hard drive. You should run Scan Disk on a partition where you were trying to install Windows Vista.

Blue screen with rows of white lines (not BSOD) causing laptop crash

A blue screen generally indicates an operating system error or hard drive failure. Start by doing a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. If the hard drive won't format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced. You will need an operating system or recovery disc in order to do this. If this is a preloaded machine that didn't come with any discs, then you will need to acquire the disc.

Toshiba satellite screen blank

This could be that the hard drive has failed, and could also be the reason for the initial crash. Run a drive test in the bios or set up. If the test fails in any area then the hard drive is bad and will need replaced. If it passes, then reformat the drive and reinstall XP.
