Question about Gaggia Syncrony Compact Digital Espresso Machine

2 Answers

Syncrony Compact Digital unit- Used well for 5 yrs without incident. Currently, after bean grinding and tamping stages, a strange, non metallic rumbling/grinding sound occurs just before the pre-brewing and brewing stage. Then following the brew, the same rumbling sound occurs as the puck is ejected into the dreg drawer. After two brews the "drew drawer full" message appears. Also a message "brew unit blocked" appeared this morning, but didn't reappear after I emptied the dreg drawer and removed, then replaced the brew unit. Any Thoughts? Brad

You described the timing of the noise clearly. During this phase, the brew group is moving into place. It is probably having a lot of friction. If there is too much friction, it explains the "brew unit blocked" message. The brew unit needs a cleaning. Start with a thorough rinse. If that is not enough, clean the gunk out of the little rails inside. Then apply Vaseline otherwise it will jam up again.

First clean the screen and tube on the brew unit, then lube the guides/gear grooves on the brew unit, also lube the o-ring(big red one). Then that should take care of it. You can also try backwashing/degreasing the brew unit if the machine has a preground chute.

SOURCE: gaggia syncrony compact is leaking. Removed top

Hi What color is the steam manifold? It is located under the black cover with the trough in back under the whit tube. If its whit or black it probably needs to be replaced. If you cool down the manifold after steaming you can prevent this from happening. Just turn off the steam and then open the knob again to run water. It comes out steam at first but then will turn to a water stream. Then you can close the knob and go about brewing or just let it stand.

SOURCE: coffee beans empty

Hi
Coffee beans empty is caused by the grinder running for about 15 seconds without filling the doser chamber. Sounds like you have a blockage in you grind passage. Try removing the brew group. Then inside on the roof of the machine where the brew unit was setting there is a drop chute where the coffee is dropped into the brew unit. From the left side of the drop chute pull down and back, and it will drop coffee. This will clear an opening that relieves pressure on the passage. There is a passage inside the drop chute area that goes to the grinder. Vacuum it out. It will be on the right side of the drop chute.
Once that is cleared go to the bean hopper. There is a lever on the right side of the bean hopper. Push the lever back to the largest number. You can push the lever to a larger number any time but it has to be grinding to pull to a smaller number. Now replace everything and make your coffee. Once you have made your coffee you can pull back to a number that was higher than the one you had it on, but only when the grinder is running.

SOURCE: We have a Gaggia Syncrony Logic that is just over

Hi
Check the drain behind the brew unit. There is a pocket below the injector that can plug up and cause water to drain under the drip tray. Check this first. Stick you finger in the pocket and see if there is water in it. If there is, the drain below and to the right is plugged and just needs to be cleaned.

If the grinder jammed it might have been because the grind was too fine, try adjusting coarser then using the + or - lever to add more coffee for proper extraction. To clear jam remove brew unit and locate door to grinder chamber on left, vac out grounds, also beans in hopper. When clean run grinder and set to coarser, then add small amount of beans and test.

You could have a micro switch in the doser that is going bad and needs to be replaced. They are a special micro switch that is very sensitive and can get stuck with a little coffee dust inside the switch.

Coffee is not strong enough?

Hi
There are 2 knobs in the bean hopper. Turn the small one to the + then back up 1 click. Turn the large knob to a smaller number, but only when it is grinding. The grind should look like coarse granulated sugar. It takes 3 cycles for the grind to take effect.
