Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi there. I called Tech Support yesterday for a problem I am having with my new Acer Aspire M5800 desktop. Yesterday, I tried to do the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista. It was stuck on file 24250 (of above 25000) in the transfer system files step for about an hour. I ended up bringing up the task manager and shutting down the upgrade. Then I shutdown my computer (using the button on the screen that comes up in Vista when you press Ctrl-Alt-Del). Since then I seem to have lost power on the desktop! It will not turn on at all. I have tried multiple power cords in multiple outlets (all of which, I know I am getting power to). I also tried unplugging everything and holding the power button down for about 1 minute as per the Acer agents suggestion. No go! I am a system guy and have gone through many computers over the years. I can understand the upgrade process causing the operating system to fail if the process is cancelled. But how could the upgrade affect power to the system? Any help you could give me would be great.

Hello, Ramble.

The only thing that comes to mind is memory (pun intended). The upgrade didn't affect power per se, but memory affected both.

Remove all memory and insert one at a time to check (but you probably know how to do this, already).

If not the memory, check to see if any power is going to the motherboard.

Hope this helps.

You shouldn't need a driver it's just generic DVD optical drive. Are you able to read any discs? Is the issue with burning or watching DVD videos?

Please check your device manager, and look for the Network Adapters to see the status of your Network Card. First check if it is detected in the Network Adapter, If there is a yellow expression mark near it then you may need to reload the driver. Otherwise you can do a ping 127.0.0.1 on a command prompt (DOS) if it replies back then your Network Card is working finely.
Cheers.

Acer Aspire 1690 cooling problem whit windows vista

Windows Vista is a very demanding Operating system when it comes to system resources and it doesnt come as a shock to hear that you computer runs warmly, If you werent experiencing any problems when you had windows XP installed, I would suggest downgrading to Window XP, otherwise wait for October 22 and purchase a genuine copy of Windows 7 and use that.

You could try a new cpu fan and heatsink. They are normally inexpensive. if this does not work make sure all the case fans are working and check to see if your ram is overheating
