Take the cover off...comes apart many different ways on various models. Once cover is removed look for blown fuses...should be one on the main input near the power cord. May be additional fuses at the transmitter. Could also be as simple as removing input power for 15 minutes and then reconnecting; I recommend you try this step first.

Exact same problem I had. Check the terminal connections at the cabinet overload, mine melted. With this being an open circuit NOTHING would work, no display, no light. It it located by the light in the top of cabinet, access by removing outer skin of cabinet and under metal cover.

Whirlpool microwave lost all power, circuit breaker is live

Sounds like your fuse has blown. Remove the unit if it is an undercounter unit. Unplug. Remove the case by taking all screws out. You should see the fuse in a holder on the top or on the side where the electronic boards and display are. Check the value and replace with a ceramic fuse OF THE SAME VALUE. The fuses are special fuses and are not glass fuses for a reason. They are ceramic (you can't see through them). You can get the fuses at . Let me know if you need more help.

How to open GE microwave and check fuse?

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or perhaps even the Power Supply. or a fault that is shutting the system down for safety reasons You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man. Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.

Probably a fuse inside the unit. Can be caused by overheating or by door switches not working properly.

Metal in oven.

Yes, most likely she damaged the magnetron and so the cheapest method once the unit dies totally is to get a new microwave. The scientific reason of what happens can be found below.

  1. If a metallic container is heated up in a microwave, many reflected waves are generated by the metal. The reflected waves return to the antenna of a magnetron, causing an increase in temperature. This causes the deterioration of the magnetron and generates electronic discharge easily, resulting in microwave failure.

  2. If a metallic container is close to the wall of a microwave, electronic discharge occurs between the wall and the metallic container, causing microwave to develop problems. Also, if this happens, users are surprised at the noise and the light, then they complain to the manufacturer. And so, we manufacturers prohibit the use of metallic containers in microwaves.

Maytag microwave just died.

Take it back to the store and make them do something about them. If they dont then file a complaint with the BBB no reason for you to have to deal with this when it is there problem. It sounds like there is a venting issue and more going on

It is dead, acts as there is no power. Would the lockout feature if activated do this?

did it die when the door was closed with a bit of gusto, if so you need to remove the outer casing and check the internal fuses. these blow for unknown reasons.

Sorry Seanna, but I have been getting a lot of problems with GE microwaves. You can call customer care at 800-432-2737, but out-of-warranty repairs are very expensive. Sounds like your problem may be door latch circuitry which requires service. If your unit is old, consider replacing it as prices are very reasonable.
