Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a rooftop dometic A/C With heat strip. Unit is controlled with a two button ceiling mounted selector control or a remote control. there are no selection controls on the adb box. Unit does not respond to either control. Can this be over rode and is the control module and remotes matched where they must be purchased as a matched set?

Yes it worked before, it was shut down and a week later it would not come on. Nothing happens not even the fan.
The only numbers provided by client via telephone are control box part #3308448-020 serial #CS100819 for models 579 & 595

Power is confirmed to the control box. There is no wall mounted thermostat, unit is controlled by the remote control only.

It is a dometic remote, unsure if it has a docking station, I will have to re-contact client and find out and get back to you at another time. Was told by my local part supplier yesterday that the remotes are matched to the control box and both would have to be purchased as a set. I have no literature on these type of units. At this time I only have Part#3308448-020 and serial#CS100819 which is for the control box.

First thing I need to ask is , are you sure, it has the strip, or coil, and did it work before? Did you actually remove ceiling cover and see it in there? The reason I ask is that it is very common for someone to tell you it has it, but it actually has the option, but no coil installed, or lower control box is wrong one. Also, once that's confirmed, could you give me the model #'s off the base of the upper unit, as well as the numbers on the control box?
Obviously the cover inside will need to be removed to do all this.

Obviously they need to confirm AC power is getting to control box, (checked breaker etc.) Then if that is confirmed, does thermostat have fuses (internal) that they can check ? Can they hear anything at all from AC unit, like maybe just a "hum" when they turn just fan on?

Is there not a base, or docking station for that remote? Is it dometic remote, or other brand?

The main reason I'm asking is that some of them were so problematic, that they stopped selling them, as well as dealers refused to install them. Most change to something more reliable, and user friendly.

Try, ( ) and check customer support for manuals etc, that may help. Yes the control/thermostat usually has to be matched to control box. The biggest problem some have, is that the wiring harness from wall thermostat to control box, isn't there, which means, lot's of work, to get one to it. Maybe if owner can send you a digital picture of remote, it can be better identified for your research.

I have a 59516.331 can i add heat pump

No. You would have to replace the entire unit. There are quite a few differences, including the circuit boards and thermostat, unless the thermostat is already digital.

Replacing the remote control for rv ac/furnace with standard thermostat

You are aware that the ceiling assy (control box) will most likely need to be replaced as well, to work in conjunction with new thermostat. If you contact dometic ( www.dometicusa) and give them your model number off bottom of roof unit and what thermostat you are trying to install, they will advise what is required.

Our remote control will not work with our Dometic Model 57915 unit. It used to when you changed the temperature up or down you got a beep from the unit. When you push the on/off button, it used to beep...

The comfort control center requires 12 VDC . If a fuse blew that feeds 12 VDC to control box at ceiling for some reason in your panel when unplugged accidentally, that would cause the remote/wall and control box at ceiling not to communicate.

Can I put heat strip in my duo therm air condition unit I think it is ducked

Check your control box at ceiling assy., and see if you notice an extra plug in side or end, where the heat strip would connect first. If not, Write the model and serial number off the control box, as well as model number off the bottom of the upper unit (roof) which should be visible when ceiling assy, filter section is removed and call dometic customer service at 1-800-544-4881, and they will advise you as to proper control box required, and if anything else is required as well.

I have a 2007 duo therm ac in my trailer with a heater opption on the selector switch what do i have to do to make this opption function

Most times the heat strip is an option that can be installed but is not currently installed. If you check your owners manual, there should be a model number of you AC unit, or you may have to remove ceiling grille, and get model number off the bottom of the upper unit. There will probably be 2 sets of numbers, one for upper unit, and one for the lower unit where the controls are. Write them both down, and get back to me, and I'll see what you have, and what you'll need to get it working. You can try heat setting and see if any heat is felt, just to be sure it isn't already there. You won't get a lot, just slightly warmer air, as it's won't heat entire trailer, but will take a little bite out of the air. Also when/if you remove grille on ceiling, look for a heating coil in opening when exposed.

Furnace won't turn on, off, with or without remote

We hotwired the thermostat wires and the furnace started. That told us that the problem was with the thermostat. We took our remote control to another camper like ours and our remote worked their furnace. That told us that the problem was in the ceiling control for the furnace/ac. But the man who owned the other camper told us that he had a problem, too, and was told to unplug all the electric including the battery, wait 2 minutes, and hook up again. This might reprogram the circuitboard, and voila! It worked.
