Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

F 5 error code onKenmore Elite Front Load Washer

First it intermittantly wouldn't spin out, but we thought it was because my mother in law under-loaded it or overloaded it.
Then it started displaying an F 5 error code and won't work at all.
The technician says 600 to fix - it is just out of warranty.

HELP? please - do you know what the error code means or what I can do?

"F05" is an indication of a water temperature sensor (NTC) error. Check the Water Temperature Sensor and check connections to the Water Temperature Sensor. To access, you will have to UNPLUG your washer and remove the lower access panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: If you place a block of wood under each front foot of the washer, it will make access to the screws much easier. If the panel sticks, a tap on the sides will knock it free. The panel will drop down then come off. The sensor (NTC) is located at the base of the wash tub in the front on the heating element. This will be a small square shaped plug between the heating element terminals. Unplug the wire harness and take a resistance check. Readings will be as follows:

Temperature Meter Reading
32°F (0°C) 35.9 Kω
86°F (30°C) 9.7 Kω
104°F (40°C) 6.6 Kω
122°F (50°C) 4.6 Kω
140°F (60°C) 3.2 Kω
158°F (70°C) 2.3 Kω
203°F (95°C) 1 Kω

Roughly...around 9K ohms at room temperature if I'm reading the chart correctly. Take readings as listed and also double check the connector to make sure it is not oxidized. Try cleaning the plug and reconnecting to see if the error code goes away. If not, you will probably have to replace the sensor.

The part number is 8181705 and listed as "NTC" at Just type in your model number and you will find the part under the "Tub and Basket" heading. The best part of all - the NTC only cost $9.75. I hope this helps you.

Meter readings are in K ohms. I don't know what happened to the text translation when I posted this...

PS you can also place the washer in diagnostics mode to see if the same
"F05" error is displayed. To do so, select DRAIN/SPIN, NO SPIN and
press any key under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the SAME key, though).
"C:00" will be displayed as the washer runs through a series of tests
that check the door latch, flow meter, hot and cold water inlets,
dispenser, motor actions, drain pump, AND the heater & NTC. The
heater and NTC are checked at segment C:05. The washer should advance
through all segments and end after C:08. There is a tech sheet inside
your washer along one of the side panels that has all this information
    available to you.

Kenmore Elite front load washer (model: 110 42936200) won't spin. It makes a buzzing/humming sound when it should be spinning. Any suggestions?

F2 mean that you have a drainage problem and could be that the pump is clogged. I believe the pump can be accessed from the front of the washer. Also make sure electrical connections are secure. Make sure no hoses are clogged or kinked anywhere.

My Kenmore elite he3t is giving me a problem in the spin cycle. Even thought the spin setting is set on high or extra high, the drum turns very slowly and will eventually stop and the washer starts...

The machine will not advance to the high-speed spin cycle unless the water is drained first. The F02 error code manifests this condition as it means draining problem. Either the pump filter is blocked, the drain hose is clogged/kinked, the pressure switch is stuck in the full position, or the pump itself is not working. The display can be cleared by pressing the Pause/Cancel button twice.

Disconnect power and remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily.

Once the panel is off, remove the filter by turning the knob counterclockwise. Clean the filter from any debris that prevents water from draining out properly. Click on the link below for further troubleshooting should the cleaning of the filter does not resolve the problem.

We've had this problem for about a yr when i finally firgured out how to correct it.
the problem is that the circuit board is attached to the washer, when it starts to shake it causes the connections to loosen and theats the fault code you get.
How I fixed this was to suspend the circuit from a bungie strap this will allow the washer to shake all it wants and the circuit board is stable, connections stay tight andwasher works fine, after 6 months not one error code at all
