Kitchenaid dishwasher KUDS02SRSS2 start light blinking won't start

My dishwasher cycle buttons/lights all seem to work normally, then I press start and the start button blinks continually but nothing happens. But all the buttons still behave the same way even with the door open or closed. They stay lit even during this action. I'm wondering what part I may need. I'm hoping it's something simply like the door switch. I've opened up to look at this but see no obvious damage. I'm not sure what the blinking is telling me but it may be that it thinks the door was opened during a cycle and it's wanting me to open, then re-close the door to restart itself? This is why I think it may be the door switch stuck in one position? Kitchenaid was no help at all with this blinking. I'm hoping you can help me. I am not familiar with this dishwasher because I bought it as is in hopes I could fix it...I was thinking it was a "dry stall" issue because it was left out from a reno for a few months.

Please help me! Thanks in advance. Lori

No, it doesn't appear to be the problem. It's apart right now but the switch does have continuity when the switch is operated. As well, the latch mechanism does activate the switch when the door closes. Unfortunate but, still looking...The start button does receive power from the control board I think. Otherwise it would not be lit at all so it does recognize the start button is depressed. Still thinking...

    Hi Aborcass.

Thanks for staying with it. OK...I've read this the other day but never tried it. (I don't have a kickplate so no wiring diagram available.) I'll give it a try with that toggle sequence but what do I do if it does go through this "diagnostic sequence". You say it will go through all the cycles, I'm assuming iun a short period of time. Then what? I guess then I know all the mechanics are working? I ordered the electronic control unit but don't want to install it just yet or I can return it. I ordered the switch and thermal fuse as well so I'll be trying those once I try this diagnostic sequence. I'll post what I find. Cheers!

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

OK...I did the diag sequ, sani-heat-sani-heat and all the lites came on in the touch pad above as well as the start button, control lock, sanitized & clean buttons and the digital display window, all located on the door. But nothing is happening...they are all just staying on. I've replaced the door switch but it's still doing the same "start lite blinking" thing. I have the electronic control board but am still waiting for the "simpler solution" if there is one?? With all the lites on, wouldn't this mean user interface is ok? Not sure but I hope so.

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

That's funny beacause I was looking very closely at the entire assembly wondering "is the little white button getting pressed with the latch mechanism"? and it was really hard to hear this click as you mentioned...I've played with theswitch to make sure I know what it sounds like but it's hard to differentiate between the latch sound and the click of the switch. I will try bending the latch then but I was pretty sure it was clicking as it should...will get back to you shortly...Thanks, again...It seems like we may be getting somewhere...I am optomistic!

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

Nope...unfortunately nothing changed. I can trigger the switch with the door open as you say but still all the same. hmmmm...I'm alsmost ready to take out the elec control? Do you think the touch pad is ok? It seems to do what it's supposed to right? If it's the motor, what is the blinking start lite telling me? I think it's saying that vthe door was opened in mid cycle, right? And it's waiting for the door to close then to re-press the start button to finish the cycle?

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

Well, when the dishwasher is in standby or off mode and you press a cycle to washer dishes, each cycle button does respond to the touch by lighting up so...I'm assuming these buttons are ok. When it says "one or more keys won't respond" then I'm assuming the light still comes on but that's as far as it goes...it still may not be responding because there's no action? I'll assume it has more to do with just lighting up. They seem to feel like they are engaging when I touch them. Since I have the elec control then, I will replace it in the morning. Will let you know. I want to thank you very much for this very interesting and useful service you have provided so reliably...step by step. Your experience has been appreciated in this world of consumerism! Not sure yet how to rate this yet...considering it's not fixed yet but I appreciate the fact that people's time is very valuable and the process involved in diagnosing, in many cases is long. Have a good night! Lori

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

So now Im getting worried. The elec control replacement didnt work. Everything still the same.

  • wolliw Feb 23, 2008

Hold on! Your going to be as happy as Im to know it was the latch after all. Right before I was to surrender to a service call, I bent the strike down as you mentioned and it work! I know I should have done that last night but I pushed the mechanism down with the screw driver instead to hear the click of the switch.

All is good now...I canèt believe I bought the parts... now they wont take them back which I knew anyway. But...thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!! You did it!

I have this same kitchenaid model. It would not start after selecting the wash cycle and pressing start. The light would blink as if the door was open. I did the reset by pushing the sani-rinse, heat dry, sani-rinse, heat-dry and closing the door. You can hear something going on inside. After that stopped (about 3 minutes). I was able to select the wash cycle, press the start, close the door, and it started. Good luck!

behind the lower kickplate if still ther eis atech sheet for this model, geting it into a diag mode would be useful, you could atleast check components operation. sani-rinse----heat dry --- sani-rinse--- heat dry, i believe is the toggle sequence t olight up all leds and then will cycle though components indivually,

exactly right, just wanted to check all mechanic systems, user interface most likely source of problem(push buttons board)opposed to actual electronic control board

thats odd, all light's light you def are in diag mode. door closed and nothing happened?can you hear that door switch "clicking" when you close the door(listen closely), although its a good switch perhaps the strike plate is not hitting it correctly(you can always bend the striker(located on the tub) down slightly, its made with some spring in it so dont worry about breaking it.or even trippeng the switch with a screwdrive in latch assy w/ door open. that migh be the simple solution your lookin for

looking at tech guide for this model says "wont run AND start/resume light blinking slowly" gives a few choices to look into, allwe've discussed so far 2nd to last recomendation was "one ore more keys wont respond",, which is a nightmare to actually test them, and finally" faulty control" repalce control.

Hi
Open the door. Within 3 seconds press the following sequence --Try pressing normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry three times within 6 seconds and then press cancel to reset the dishwasher. If that doesn't help then try pressing Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry or Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry 3 times in 6 seconds and then the Cancel Button. Close the door and press Cancel.
Blinking lights would stop and should be able to use your dishwasher normally. If the light is still blinking try and reset the power to the dishwasher and try again. If still the light is blinking then check for the connections on the keypad, it may be due to moisture or shorted connections on keypad. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

The wash light and the start/cancel button keep flashing. How do I fix it? I have a Kitchen Aide dishwasher model KUDS02FR

Hi,

The clean light usually will blink due to a failure to heat the water properly. This dishwasher looks for a temperature rise of the water during a heating cycle if it fails to see this rise for multiple cycles it may shut down and blink the clean light.
There are a few things to check before resetting the control.

-The unit not being level so both door switches do not make contact
-
The sump plugged up so water is not pumping across the heater (see sump clean out below)

- Not enough water filling the dishwasher

- The heat element is not working

To reset the control use this key dance within 5 seconds press:HEATED DRY, NORMAL, HEATED DRY, NORMAL
This will cause you to enter the diagnosis cycle once this is finished or you hit cancel the control should be unlocked and ready to use.

Thank you !

The "cancel" light blinks on and off rapidly. If we push start for the cycle the dishwasher clicks off and on intermitently.

Hi,
To solve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence
-high temp wash -heated dry -high temp wash -heated dry
After doing this sequence all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cycle finish (1-2 minutes). You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.
Thank you!

Lights on the Asko D1996 keep blinking

This depends on the blinking pattern. Of the eight lights on the panel, if the four on the left blink on and then the right four lights blink on as the left ones go off, and keep blinking back and forth, that just means the mode has been set and the Start button pressed. After closing the door it should just continue on wherever it is in the cycle. (This is normal operation).
If you hold down the Start button, this resets the dishwasher. If you then close the door, nothing will happen because it thinks it's done.
If the lights are blinking in a different pattern, such as they all blink on and off in unison, that indicates an error condition and needs to be diagnosed. If the pump is not running constantly, then at least it's not because water is leaking out somewhere.
