SOURCE: Can I get my recordings off a HD DVR with a damaged hard drive?

Sorry, no. Not unless you have a working unit you can put the faulty drive in, but as you say, it's faulty... by its nature a faulty drive isn't useable.

How do i reset password for h264 dvr

Hello, There are two things you can try, the default password for the system should be 000000. If that is not the password if you go into the System Menu under the "General" tab there will be an option that says Factory Defaults, this will reset the settings to the default and should remove any password that is in place, but be warned that this will possibly wipe the dvr.

Need to recover data from DirecTV R15 DVR receiver hard drive

First, sorry for the delay in respoding to your post. I did notice that you had a prior question about the Power Supply on an R15 DVR. Does the unit have a manufacture code of 500(found on the right hand front Flip Door of the DVR)? If so, I might be able to help you in repairing the Power Supply. As far as I know, getting your DVR up and running again is the only way to watch your previously recorded programs. As far as retreiving programs from your old Hard Drive via other methods, I probably won't be able to help you there. When I had both of my identical DVR 15 500's apart for a parts swap to diagnos a failed Phototransistor(infra-red sensor for the remote control), I also tried to swap out the Hard Drives. This is what I found: When you swap a Hard Drive into another DVR, it won't play any of the programs previously recorded. However, if you record new programs on the swapped Hard Drive then they will be playable on this current setup. Now, if you swap the Hard Drive back to the original DVR it came out of, the programs will once again be accessible except for any that you might have recorded while the Hard Drive was in the other DVR. So, in conclusion, when programs are recorded on a particular DVR, it is encoded electronically to play back only in that DVR via communication from the Motherboard and the Hard Drive. I know, it sucks, but that is why I was asking if you are pretty sure the Power Supply is at fault. If so, I received info from this forum on how to fix the issue. Also, if the attempt fails, Ebay has some previously owned DVR's for sale and maybe you can get one for spare parts. Remember, the Power Board and Front Display Control Panel are the only interchangeable parts IF you want to view the programs on your DVR's Hard Drive. Let me know what your DVR does when you plug it in. That will go far in further diagnostics of your DVR.

I am attempting to repair a Digimerge VCE 308301 (the 8 channel network DVR system) The client is able to view the setup menu but unable to to get an output signal from the cameras. The system runs it is...

The problem did not have anything to do with the DVR (Digimerge VCE 308301). It did however, have everything to do with the cameras' power supply system.

First, I contacted the company's (Digimerge) tech department; and they were of no help since the DVR system is obsolete. There are no replacement/spare parts available; e.g. mainboard and daughter boards...and of course, they don't have schematic diagrams for the DVR either. And due to its obsolesence- there is no tech support. (It makes me wonder why, though, how security and electronic vendors can in good conscious sell this obsolete model DVR for $1,400 and upwards of $2,200.00 to the unsuspecting consumer/end-user.)

Since I was able to boot up the DVR system and access the BIOS menu; and considering that the screen was showing that it was in record mode- and the system BIOS was keeping the proper date and time, I believed that there was something else going on with the security system.

I contacted the customer and went out to their home- as I was about to hook up the cameras to each input behind the DVR- by happenstance, I checked the power supply panel to make sure that the power supply had been turned off (which the home owner failed to do). Having turned off the cameras' power supply, I then made all my camera hook-ups to the DVR. When I turned the power supply to the camera system on, I was able to get a video signal, hence a nice clear picture. I did check the voltage draw on each power terminal at about 12.5 vdc and a visual check on the infra- red led's on each of the security cameras were lit.

Problem solved, right!?...WRONG!

Several hours later, I received a call from the homeowner that his security system was not working again. The first thing I noticed as I pulled into the customer's driveway was that all the cameras' infra-red led's were out. I immediately placed my volt meter on the output side of the transformer at each of the cameras' power terminal- and waddya' know- I was barely reading over 1 vdc. Apparently- over time, the transformer starts to overheat and the voltage drops out. After it cools down though, the voltage resumes to 12.5vdc to power up the cameras.

This is my first experience working on a secuirty camera system so I hope this has been as much of a learning experience for you novices as it has been for me!
