No 6V power via power adapter to Sony ICF-SW7600GR

When I was in Rwanda, Africa, I lost my power supply to my Sony ICF-SW7600GR, using a power adapter. My power adapter had different settings and I believe it was accidently suplying 9 volts instead of 6. Is there a fuse inside that can be replaces to restore the 6V power supply?

Could be a diode or a capacitor. Where are you located?

I recently bought this Sony ICF-7600 model radio from a local electronics 'recycler' It works well on batteries. I want to use an AC / DC power cord to plug into my wall socket at home or car...

It looks like 20ma is insufficient for this radio. A quick search on the internet showed it needs 6v at about 700ma DC. Attached is the page I found. You should be able to find a supply like this lots of places. You can always safely have MORE current than 700ma, but you shouldn't use less. The device will only take as much current as it needs - like gas in a gas tank. Make sure the plug polarity is correct (a cheap $4 volt meter can measure this) as it shows in the instructions attached (inside plus, outside minus or ground). Good luck!

The antenna on my ICF-SW7600gr broke off. I want to solder on a new wire lead. should i only connect to the top solder point, or to all three where the old antenna plate rested?

There is only one antenna connection. That is the wire or pin in the middle of the coax connector where the old antenna was connected. Hook that to your new antenna, the other connectors are usually at ground potential and won't help a bit. Often a piece of wire the same length as the old antenna will work fine. Stretch it in the vertical position as was the old antenna.

Sony ICF-7600 7Band power adapter polarity question

Hello Xiar, Yes the center pin is positive. You have to use any regulated 6volt DC adapter. It may be a good ideea to put a 6v regulator (xx7806) after the adaptor bridge. I have a icf7600 fm/mw/sw 7band receiver too and I`m looking for the service manual or the pcb layout for it. If it by chance you have it mail me at Regard, Alex

Use Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 in Europe

A transformer type (Linear Mode Power Supply) AC to DC power adapter with a 9.V nominal output, measures about 12.V without load when tested with a multimeter. A power adapter with a nominal output of 7.5 V, measures a little over 9.V. Considering a number of people across different forums reported the adapter's measured power output as 12.V, I think the nominal rating of the AC to DC adapter should be 9.V. However, keep away from Switch Mode Power Supplies.
