Well, your computer may have gone into standby mode. Type hitting the spacebar or the power/reset key. Your laptop may have a speical "Standby" key. It is possible your LCD display is broken or the wiring has become unattached.

On my advent roma 2000 laptop, randomly the screen went black when i turn it on but it comes on at the start for 2 seconds then goes off..? what do i do

its overheating, check whether your fan is working, otherwise open it and clean it out, do not use a blower, the spinning fan can overcharge your motherboard and blow it

Advent 7111 narrow screen

If the display isn't going full screen, on that 15.4 inch TFT LCD screen, the problem is the screen Inverter, or LCD screen itself.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the screen Inverter.
It isn't a simple screen resolution setting that needs to be changed.

http://www.laptoppowerjacks.co.uk/advent-inverter/advent-7111-7107-8315-lcd-screen-inverter-as023217127-iv09140t-lf.html

Primer:

An LCD screen does not produce light by itself,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Vikuiti1/BrandProducts/secondary/optics101/

It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
The Advent 7111 Notebook PC uses One CCFL,

http://www.screencountry.com/index.php?section=products&model=7111&brand=Advent&size=

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick. Length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height. 2mm is close to 1/16th of an Inch )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

Primer over.

I don't have access to a Service Manual, for the Advent 7111 Notebook PC. I haven't had one come to my shop for repair.

I DO have years of experience at repairing laptops, and I see the Advent 7111 is just a basic laptop, as I HAVE repaired over the years.

If you wish, I can guide you step by step, in replacing the screen Inverter.

(MANY people go out, and buy an LCD screen, when the problem is a much less expensive screen Inverter. Afterwards they buy the screen Inverter. Too bad they didn't come here first)

[ The Advent 7111 Notebook PC is just a re-badged Quanta TW3M.
According to the source, you should see TW3M on the bottom of the laptop.

Black screen on advent verona netbook

A black screen on startup can be so many things! I have learned this lesson the hard way. Never turn off the computer when it is half way through the boot procedure. Even when it is taking forever, or having a major problem you must let it run through if possible. Interrupting it once may be ok, but twice or three times is a no no. After you have carelessly restarted and shutdown a few times the black screen may appear. But this time it may be beyond repair for the average computer user.

I have a almost black screen on my 7111, when i start, i see the advent logo perfect, and then it gos almost black, i can see the screen very very faintly or weak in the background. Do i have to change the...

There are two parts responsible for lighting the display. First is the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp), which is the back light and the second is the Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. Either of the parts can be faulty or in some rare cases both. But most likely it is the CCFL (Lamp). Its life is limited and depending upon how long it has been in use, you can have a better idea - if its the CCFL or Inverter.
Rest assure that your system is ok and you can check it by connecting you laptop with some external display, which would work fine if the graphic card is ok.
So, my advice is that you get it properly checked by any professional for replacement of CCFL or Inverter.

This lapotp doesnt have bluetooth I'm afraid, the newer Advents do. Best bet is to buy a USB bluetooth dongle which only costs a few pounds and you can pklug it into any USB port and be running within seconds

Advent black screen

Hi,

This sounds like a bad video driver update.

Restart the machine and repeatedly tap the F8 key. When you see the advanced boot menu appear choose safe mode.

You will see white text on screen that will stop on a system 32 driver, wait a minute and let it boot through.

Next, go do device manager and uninstall the display drivers or roll back the driver to a previous one.
Reboot the machine and it should boot into windows normally. You may have to reinstall the display drivers if they don't reinstall themselves.

Please post back if you need anymore help or advice.

Good luck.
