Hello,
The problem sounds like the spindle motor is about to go out completely. If a disc does not spin or does not spin at it's proper speed the optical lens reading laser can not read the disc and you get a "no disc", or "disc not recognized" error message. On average a dvd will spin 3 times faster than a regular cd will. The following pictures will show you what these components look like.

Check around your local area to find what a service technician will charge to replace the part. On average it will usually cost between $60-90 dollars most of which is labor.

I hope this gives you some idea of what the problem is and how to solve it.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

I do not know what happened to the pictures I posted, but here they are again.

    The spindle and motor dismantled.

The spindle as seen when you first open the case.

No disk message

Hello
Check it with a standard company burned disc. if it does not read it, make sure that either the disc does not spins inside, or the laser pickup unit is faulty. Just open the top cover of the set, and insert the disc, see whether it spins at high speed at first and then slows down. if the disc do not spind, the sled motor is faulty. If the disc spins, and still the player do not read disc, the laser pickup unit should be repalced.

It will not let me insert a disc and when I press the eject button, it sounds like it is going to eject a disc and then it makes a weird noise for 5 seconds. Then, it will say CLOSE for a bit. I got one...

It sounds like you have 2 disks stuck in there. TV repair shop, or try shaking the dvd player lightly while dvd is trying to open. You may need to help open the door, but too much effort could cause harm.

I have a HR 753 DVD player and recorder and all of sudden not reading a lot of disks. even new ones brought from shop. I have put them in my friends DVD which is exactly the same and they work. Any ideas?...

Barring lightning strikes and other electrical issues...

9 times out of 10 the issue is going to be one of the two motors that are in the player. Either the motor that moves the lens or the motor that spins the disc. You should be able to hear a difference in the sounds the two players make when you insert a disc. If it is the motors you will hear clicking noise, similar to a dying hard drive. If ther motors work, you will hear the whurring noise of a spinning disc.

Bad disc or insert disc problem

If you are using a copied disc try a real one. But this model of DVD Player is made so cheap. it sound like the laser assembly is bad or the motor that spins the disc is stuck or going out. If you are good at electroninics you could take the lid off load a disc and see if it spins if not give it a spin clockwise and see if it takes off. You probably should replace unit for price of a new one.
