Question about Panasonic SA-XR15 Receiver

1 Answer

Shows "overload" about 2 seconds after on switch-on.

I have removed all inputs, and then all outputs, but the problem remains. Powered down completely - no change
The fan does not operate - is this enough to cause it?

The fan may not operate because of the fact the overload is in the power supply. There are comparator circuits checking voltages and or temperatures. In this case the fan may come on when initially turned on or it may come on when the thermistor in the thermal overload circuit reaches its set temperature. Either way you have a problem with your power supply.

Proscan TV HDMI no signal

I presume the non HDMI inputs including component work---what are you feeding to the two inputs in question?

Game unit?
Output from a Computer?
Output from a HD cable box?

First thing I would do is go into menu and make sure those inputs are not "grayed out" means locked out.

Second thing I would do is if from only one kind of unit you are trying each input (understand I have seen this before) to disconnect power from set and from whatever is providing the signal.

Sometimes a glitch can occur and if someone tries to connect things with either or both units powered this can be the result--HDMI in some cases does not like that--and a set can sometimes detect nothing is connected and lock that input out if you do it with the units powered up.

The remaining possible answers are:

A bad board which has the HDMI connections on it (unlikely but possible)

The set (if it has it) needs a hard reset done to restore to factory settings.

The set may also have a software/firmware update available for this.

If its Proscan (Thompson--RCA/GE/PROSCAN) INFO or help from them is going to be nearly impossible to obtain.

Screen displays "overload, switch off power." Have

Hi Laurel,

Overload in other unit protect error code. This will appear once the processor sense a malfunction either on the power supply or on the load (high chance is the output IC). DIY steps are as follow to determine where the fault is : 1. Allow the unit to cool down for an hour. Give proper ventilation and keep away all obstruction from the vent to have a sufficient air flow. 2. Disconnect one at a time the speakers, inputs, from the unit while powering it on.

If the unit back to normal again then you've confirmed that any of the above caused the error code. If #1 is the caused, you have to check also the exhaust fan(if installed), clean it as much as possible, replaced if faulty. If #2 is the caused (speaker) check the wire and speakers for short, (input) check the RCA cord for short or replaced if necessary.

If the above simple fix didn't cure the error code, you can try the next steps if you are an electronicsenthusiast. Now after removing the cover, you have to concentrate first on the power supply board. Look for bulged electrolytic capacitor. Leaky capacitor will affect the regulation of the supply and will trigger the error code. Look for dry joints. Check it also in the pre-amplifier stage, main output board where a big heat sink is located. Next disable the output amplifier stage by disconnecting the supply. If the unit come out, make some re-soldering on the board, spot the cold solder and dry joints and then try to connect again. If the error code appear again, high chance that your output IC is faulty but still to be confirmed. Using the disoldering pump and soldering iron pull-out the output IC from the board then try the unit. If the error code disappear, confirmed that your IC is faulty. After trying the abovesteps-by-steps guide and still the symptoms persist this is the time for you to send it to repair shop. Remember that your unit has a lot of parts and only some basic steps have done, leave the expert to troubleshoot the entire unit.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hello! I'm from Riyadh Saudi Arabia. I've left on my Tripp Lite UPS 1000 just last night. When I came in my office in the morning, my desktop computer including my computer server was OFF. I supprised that...

Unplug the computer. Then run the UPS self-test and the unit will display whether it finds an overload fault, whether the battery needs to be charged or replaced.
Here are the instructions (copied from the User Manual):
Turn UPS on: Press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second.

Run a Self-Test: Press and hold the MUTE/TEST button for two seconds (until alarm beeps several times).

The test will last 10 seconds. All LCD Display icons will be illuminated and the alarm will sound.

If the fault icon remains lit, the battery-supplied outlets are overloaded. Unplug powered devices until you remove the overload.

If the "Replace" icon remains lit and alarm continues to sound, the UPS batteries need to be recharged or replaced. Allow UPS to charge for 24 hours and repeat self-test.

Ups starts beeping

Is there any indicator lights ON showing the fault condition?
This could indicate that the battery has a low charge. Even if you switch off the mains supply and it switches over to the battery, the UPS may shut down after a short time as the battery power (charge) runs out.
If the battery is more than 3 years old then it may be due for replacement.

Powersn for 1-2 seconds then shuts off

The receiver is going into protection mode. Try removing all connections i.e. source inputs and speaker connections. If the problem still continues your problem is internal and would require a trained service tech to troubleshoot and repair. More than likely the switching power supply or amplifier output is overloaded.

SA HE200 ~ Overload at power up

First of, be sure volume is turned all the way down before or as you are powering it it.
Second if that does not work disconnect all speaker, and input/outputs.  Power the device on and see if it says overload.
If it does skip the rest of these steps, your capacitors are bad or the power supply is no longer functioning correctly.
If it doesnt, start with testing each speaker at power up.  Match the speaker to the output it goes on, power the device see if it says it.
If it does on any speaker test it is a speaker issue or a terminal issue.  To test for terminal or speaker issue plug a different/ known to work speaker in that same terminal, if it doesnt say overload it is a speaker issue, if it does say overload it is a terminal issue.
Once you have made sure all speakers and terminals work correctly start plugging input and outputs in and test individually.
