Max supported memory is 2GB (2x1GB sticks replacing your current memory). Yes, it'd be worth it to add more memory of you were keeping the machine, otherwise restore it to original configuration and sell it "as is". Don't get a professional, just used your ASUSes restore option to set it back to factory configuration.
