Question about Dell A940 All-In-One InkJet Printer

My black dell ink cartridge is not out of ink, not even 1/4th down, however after 2-4 pages, it acts like it is out of ink. I'm assuming it will stop printing black all together in a little while like my last 2 cartridges. The cartridges cannot all be bad. Any idea what's up? I've tried shaking it and putting it back in and cleaning the cartridge several times - if it helps, it's only momentarily......the printer soon goes back to skipping and not printing black as if it was out.

    All three cartridges are different lot numbers. I did the printer allignment and cleaned the printer nozzles. So I uninstalled my printer thinking I could download and install it again. I've supposedly downloaded the printer driver and firmware off of the Dell site, but when I go to open and run it, it says the download is not there. Any suggestions on that?

I assume you performed the steps outlined in page 54 of this PDF file.
I would also suggest cleaning the contacts of the cartridge both on the cartridge & the carriage. Use an electric contact cleaner (non-oily) or isopropyl alcohol to do this.

Hi.

  1. Ensure that you chose "new cartridge" on software when you install a new cartridge. Follow cartridge replacement procedure from manual.
  2. Reinstall the printer software.
  3. If you are using re-manufactured cartridges, then you need to test using original cartridges.
  4. If the three cartridges you tested are from the same stock, test In thatan original cartridge purchased elsewhere, It may have been a faulty stock, or the cartridges may have been over expiration date.
  5. Ensure that you have not been given a set of demo cartridges, the ones used in the shop.
  6. Check the metal contact inside the ink carriage, and clean it using isopropyl alcohol and cotton.
  7. If all this does not work, then the printer is faulty. In that case contact Dell, and get it repaired or replaced.

Note: if the printer is out of warranty, and instead of getting a low ink message, the printer just fade out, then you have a dirty or clogged printhead. The printhead can be cleaned thoroughly by removing it from printer and soaking it into cleaning solution or isopropyl alcohol solution.

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 21, 22 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 21. 22 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would take these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

Replacing Ink Cartridges

CAUTION: Before performing any of the procedures listed in this section, read and

follow the safety information in "CAUTION: SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" on page 9.

Dell ink cartridges are only available through Dell. You can order more ink online at

www.dell.com/supplies or by phone. To order by phone, see "Ordering Supplies" on page 2.

Dell recommends Dell ink cartridges for your printer. Dell does not provide warranty coverage

for problems caused by using accessories, parts, or components not supplied by Dell.

1 Turn on your printer.

2 Lift the printer unit, and position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

3 Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.

4 Remove the old ink cartridges.

5 Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with

your photo cartridge, or dispose of them properly.

6 If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the

back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

7 Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the

left ink cartridge carrier, and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge

carrier.

8 Snap each lid closed.

9 Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until
it is completely closed.

Dell 3100n keeps saying "Change Black Toner" even


Before installing a new toner, put a disposable towel over the ink toner exit, and shake your toner lightly back and forth and up and down. Make sure your toner cartridge is in the open position before replacing it in your printer.

If you are using a refillable ink cartridge, make sure you are resetting the cartridge using the method described by the refillable manufacturer.

Take the plastic strip off the ink jet cartridge before putting the thing in the printer.  Check the ink jets to see if they are clogged.

Refilled my Dell Ink Cartridge


yes, it's safe, and if you are dissatisfied with the cartridge, take it up with the cartridge re-filler...better yet, spend about $100 on a black & white laser printer (HP), and get 2000 pages per cartridge, and reduce cost per page by 20 times or more! And If you buy compatibles for this (which are more reliable) -save even more.

Full black ink cartridge - but says there is no black ink


To run a nozzle clean, perform the following steps:
  1. Verify the All-In-One Printer 924 is powered on and connected to a computer.
  2. Verify that the paper support (input tray) has clean, plain white paper loaded.
  3. Press the Menu button.
  4. Press the Down button until Mode: Maintenance appears on the LCD screen.
  5. Press the Menu button.
    The Dell 924 Maintenance Menu appears on the LCD screen.
  6. Press the Down button until Clean Cartridges appears on the LCD screen.
  7. Press the Start button.
    The AIO 924 prints the cleaning page. This process cleans the ink cartridges and resolves many print quality issues.

Wicking the cartridges and cleaning the contacts on the back of the cartridge should be performed if the nozzle clean was performed and the quality was not satisfactory.
Wicking the Cartridge
  1. Ensure the printer is powered on.
  2. Lift the scanner unit.
  3. Open the cartridge latches and remove the cartridges from the carrier
  4. Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the nozzle of the print cartridge from front to back

Cleaning the Contacts
  1. Turn the cartridge so that you are looking at the contacts on the back side of the cartridge
  2. Using a clean dry cloth, wipe the contacts in the direction, so that no dust or other contaminants are visible.
  3. Clean the contact inside the printer with the dry cloth used to clean the cartridge contacts.
  4. Replace the cartridges in the carrier and close the scanner unit.
  5. Print the document again.
  6. If the print quality does not improve, repeat the steps for cleaning the nozzles and contacts up to two more times as needed.
Verify the Ink Cartridges Are Installed in the Proper Slot
  1. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  2. Read the label on the side of both cartridges to identify which is color and which is black.
  3. Install the black cartridge in the slot on the left and the color cartridge in the slot on the right
  4. Close the ink cartridge lids and make sure they lock in place.

My Dell A940 is not printing with black ink.


how long have the cartridges sat? I've noticed after about a week, that dell ink clogs up. Also, Lexmark makes most Dell printers. In my time as a cartridge refiller, we blow through dells and lexmarks and when they **** out, usually it acts like it prints, but nothing comes out printed, only blank pages

i was having these same exact problems then i looked at my old ink cartridge and saw that the blue tape was off and that i hadnt taken it off my new one i was trying to print with.!!!
