Most computer makers put the restore on a partition of the hard drive that is accessed using an F-key on bootup. You should see f-key options displayed (very quickly) on booting up and one will be "restore". For example, on an HP machine, it'll be F11 you hit on boot up to go into the restore partiton.

Every time I need to do a back up, I'm told to insert blank disc, then I'm told "Disc needs formatting" but the formatting always fails, why?

Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Backup & Restore

Check Backup Destination. it should be CD Drive here. If it is CD Drive, then it will ask for inserting "Bannk Cd". I suggest you to insert new Bank CD/DVD to avoid formatting message. Also, if data is huge, it can not be write on CD/DVD.

I would suggest you to buy any external USB hardrive and set it as a BACKUP Path.

I have vista home premium and the harddirve crashed and I need to reinstall vista and i did not get a cd with the computer--I have the key where can I get a copy

The computer will sometimes have a separate partition on the hard drive to allow you to re-install your computer to factory setting. This option may be available on a menu during start up. If you had a full hard drive failure and had to change out to a new hard drive. Contact your computer manufacturer and see about getting recovery disks sent to you.

I hope that this information was helpful. If it was, please leave positive feedback for me.

Thank You,
Brian

My Windows Vista computer keeps freezing up

Go to start click on Run type in the run dialogue "cmd"
In the black DOS box type CHKDSK C: /f
It will tell you that it is not able to perform this operation until next reboot. Then reboot this will check the disk to ensure you have no bad blocks or sectors and if you do it will fix them. If this does not work look below

2nd Recommendation:

Restore Windows with your CD provide by your OEM.

Warning you will loose data. If this does not resolve the issue you potentially could have a Hard Drive issue and you might need to replace it.

I need to get back in my OEM vista home premium

If you contact Toshiba, they can send you the original restore disks. If you are really nice to them, they might send them out for free.. I believe normally they do charge but they sent them to me for free a couple of years ago with my Toshiba laptop :)

This article may help. Vista apparently likes to not add an upper limit to its System Restore function... but only sometimes.

What is this

if you are doing a clean XP install the CD will ask if you if you want to change your partitions.Afterwards it will automatically format the hard drive. Some of the OS discs dont come with drivers you will have to hunt for them on the internet. If you are using a restore disc copyied from a working machine it should have generic drivers already loaded in the disc.
