DVDs always 'freeze' about 1 hour from start of play & revert to TV.

I have the same problem. I took it apart and cleaned it and checked for a thermal issue but am not convinced. I think the disc sensor circuit is malfunctioning because when mine stops it attempts to switch to vcr mode and stalls because there is no tape.

More info please:

Does it do it on all DVD's even store bought? If it's only doing it on recorded DVD's it's probably the quality of the Disc.

Will this play American DVDs (region 1)?

Hi I just saw your question. Normally "NTSC" is the code I have always seen when I was overseas and going to buy a DVD, like the one I bought in Rome on "The Colesseum" which comes in "NTSC" format which is printed on it with U.S. & British flag (Canada as usual, well we were missed. Oh well !). When I checked on Wikipedia, I got my answer, and yes " REGION 1 ", as noted there in Wikipedia " WHICH is in RED ", does cover
" CANADA & THE UNITED STATES " , so you are " good to go ", & "PLAY AWAY !!"
Enjoy your DVD !

Philips HTS3565D dvd player, recent Paramount DVDs (Star Trek and Transformers 2) freeze during the Paramount DVD introduction at the exact same spot: as the stars are flying in toward the camera's view....

I have the same problem, though I don't recall which exact movies. They were all from Blockbuster. Sometimes they start to play and then halt at the end of track 1 and sometimes don't even make it tot he menu. The same movie will play on our portable dvd player. A Philips rep told me about 6 weeks ago it was a problem with a new security feature on some movies and to watch the website for a possible firmware upgrade to fix it. Now you can't even talk to someone at Philips so I don't know what to think. The "live chat" folks just want to tell you to take it to a repair shop - not much help there.

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)

Dear FixYa Team,

Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.

Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.

Thanks again.

Pixilation when playback of dubbed and homemade DVDs

As mentioned on the Jan12 e-mailed Panasonic - surprise, no response! However on Panasonic's web site drill down to firmware upgrades for DVD machines. There is an upgrade available for the E50P. Straight forward fix, download to computer, expand it and copy to a CD-R. Put CD-R into E50 and recorder will check and update firmware. I did this on the 13th and have recorded two commercial free movies and both have played back perfectly after finalization. Time will tell. Hope this helps. Golferdon

Player freezes at same time on almost every disk, and recorder programs won't play on anything else.

The last problem is probably because you have not ?finalized? the DVD yet. Basically what that does is modify how the data is stored on the DVD so that a normal DVD player can read it. It also prevents you from modifying or recording to the disk any more so make sure you?re done before performing this. The part about the freezing is more complex, are these commercially recorded DVDs or something someone else recorded?

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
