Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

No pairing between Samsung remote control and TV. The small remote work correctly, blueray remote too and even HD cable remote can turn TV on/off. I own TV Samsung LCD/DEL 55" I followed instructions, pairing and reset, automatic and manually... no pairing. The store gave me a new remote... again no pairing. Can you help me?

Yes, it is the remove for this TV.

  • grob45 Feb 07, 2010

First: When I installed TV for the first time, I didn't need paanyiring, all was going fine.

Second: The store gave me exactly the same remote as the original. (BN59-00849A) RF

Third: I performed the test with digital camera. No light blinking even after changing the batteries.
The light blink with cable remote and too with blueray's remote or remote of Denon audio system.

    TV model: Samsung UN55B8000

The remote in question: is it the remote for the TV or some type of universal remote?

This is a very interesting problem. With 99% of TVs on the market, there is no pairing that needs to be done between the original remote and the television itself. But since you're saying there are instructions that come with the TV for pairing the remote that comes inside the box with the TV, obviously your TV is different than most. Since you're able to control the TV to some degree with a different remote, that indicates that the main remote sensor in the TV is working.

When you say the store gave you a new remote, I presume you mean they opened the box of a TV exactly like yours and gave you the remote from inside, right? If that is correct there is a test I'd like for you to conduct on the remote that came inside your box and the one the store gave you. If they took back the one that came inside your box when they gave you the replacement, so be it. To perform this test, you'll need a digital camera, or a cell phone that has a camera built in.

What you need to do is aim the remote at the camera while looking at the remote as if you're going to take its picture. Press down and hold the channel up or down button while looking at the remote using the camera. When a remote is sending a signal properly you should see what will look like a blinking white light as you hold down one of the channel buttons.

Please let me know if the remote(s) is working which means you see a blinking light. I'll be waiting for your post.

While waiting for your next post, I decided to see if I could find any information from Samsung that would be helpful. You typed that you have a LCD/DEL 55" but you probably meant to type LCD/LED 55", right? I couldn't find a Samsung TV that has DEL in the description or model number. The only 55" TVs I could find made by Samsung are the new LED backlit TVs.

Apparently, the remote that comes with those TVs are RF (which stands for radio frequency) instead of IR (which stands for infrared). So, the test I asked you to conduct won't work unless the remote has partial infrared functionality. Your TV clearly has two remote sensors inside of it. One is a traditional IR remote sensor which allows the TV to receive commands from a traditional cable/satellite remote and your blu-ray remote, but it also has a RF remote sensor that would receive commands from the RF remote that comes in the box.

Now, according to Samsung, as you'll read below, if you attempt to pair the remote twice and it doesn't work, they are confident the remote itself needs to be replaced. The fact that you got a replacement from the retailer and it too didn't work is no immediate cause to believe the TV itself has a problem. Sometimes a store can have a few to several TVs with the same bad part inside the box which in this case would be a faulty remote. The only troubleshooting offered by Samsung is replacing the batteries and I presume you tried at least one other set besides the batteries that came inside the box with the TV. Below I will past what they have to say regarding pairing your remote. If what you see is the same instructions you have, and it's not working, then you'll want to call them tomorrow so that they can send you a replacement remote from the factory.

If you get a remote from them and it still doesn't pair with the TV, that would likely indicate the TV itself is in need of repair. The RF remote sensor inside the TV probably needs to be replaced if a remote from them doesn't solve this issue. Like I said, read below to insure it's the same instructions you have, and if they are, call Samsung at 1-800-SAMSUNG(726-7864) in the morning so they can send that part to you at no charge. You can also go to their site and click on a service request button to request a replacement remote, however, I suggest calling so that you can explain to a live person that you've already tried a second remote and it too didn't work. There's always the chance that they've heard of this problem before so talking to a live person is best.

    Start
by replacing the batteries in your remote.

    1. Open the battery
compartment on the back of your remote and remove both of the
      batteries.

    1. Properly
      insert a
      new set of batteries.

      • If your
        remote is
working properly after the last step, your previous batteries are
        dead.

      • If your
        remote
is not working properly after the last step, continue to Remote
        Reset And Pairing.

button on your remote, and using the [Power] button on the TV, turn
      on your
      TV within 30 seconds.

        remote
        beeps, pairing is complete.

      • If the
        remote
does not beep, try the previous steps again.

    Important:
    If
after replacing the batteries and resetting and pairing your remote
    at

It sounds like the TV needs to be repaired. The fact that it was working at first and then stopped and now won't work with a replacement remote is normally a sign that the problem isn't the remote but instead the remote sensor in the TV. As I suggested in my last comment, you will want to contact Samsung at your earliest convenience tomorrow so that their tech support can consider the problem. They'll probably want to send you a remote because they'll feel confident that there is nothing wrong with one that they send to you. But when (if) that one doesn't work, they'll set you up for in-home service. Or, if the remote they send you doesn't work and you're not past the return date for the retailer, you can take the TV back to the store and get a new one.

My guess is the TV has an issue internally with the RF remote sensor while the IR remote sensor in the TV is working fine. I believe Samsung will want to send you a remote just to make sure that you didn't get two bad remotes from the store. Don't request the remote through their site, be sure to call them and talk to a live person so that they'll know you've already tried a second remote.

    I hope I've provided you
useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an
informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to
vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today!

    Please post a

Why does my Samsung not turn off my cable box?

It sounds like the box and TV are out of sync. If the DVR is shut off, turn off the TV manually (NOT with the remote.) The next time you hit the power on the remote, both units should power up together. Make sure the remote is pointed at both device at the same time and slowly sweep the remote to hit both of them while holding the power button. I have always used the cable/DVR remote to control my devices and left the TV remote in a basket for setup stuff only on the TV.

I had the same problem. The following worked for me and the 46d7000 qwerty remote. Try this: unplug TV. Then press power button until the red led turns off (5 sec or so). One themed is off, plug in tv and power on and try the pairing again.

Just received a Samsung BR BD-P1500 2009 model, as a gift. No one code for the remote control work for my Panasonic Viera TC-L37D2 bought in 2010. Samsung "assistance" told me that my BR is too...

Unfortunately, Samsung tech support was accurate. Most universal remotes (and the portion of the remote programming to control other devices is the same program) only have codes for devices released 6 months or more before the remote was programmed.

However, any universal remote that is newer than the TV (by that 6 month programming period) should control both devices. Low end universal remotes may not support all of the features of either the TV or the Blu-ray player. The remotes that can be programmed via a USB connection to a computer are the fastest to set up. (Alternatives: You can use both remotes when watching a movie or get a Viera link Blu-ray player that is compatible with the TV. For the second option, you need a device with the HDAVI Control (not above Control 5) connected via a good HDMI cable)

I wish that I had better news.
