I downgraded from vista to xp and now i need a sound driver compatible for my gateway:w34oui

This is another tough one.
Since GW does not have Win XP drivers available for your system, it will be difficult to find a sound driver that will work. You could try to use the Vista driver, but I would be skeptical that it will work to use that driver because of the way that sounds are processed in Vista/Win 7.
You didn't mention why you did the downgrade, but if it was performance related, Win 7 should work fine with your system. If there was a certain program etc., that you need, there is another option.
There are many USB soundcards that will will work well with Win XP, and they should not have the XP problem since their hardware is designed to work with XP. Note: If you go this route, make sure you choose one that is Win XP compatible. One other thing on this option, though. Your internal speakers may not route sound through the USB soundcard, which would mean then that you would need external speakers to get sound. I understand that may be a deal-breaker, which is why I would (unless you specifically need XP) either go back to Vista or upgrade to Win 7. Some version of Win 7 feature "XP mode" which allows you to run programs in a virtual Win XP environment. I have not had perfect luck getting XP programs to work, but it's worth a try.

As far as I know there is none for "WINDOWS 7", but however the XP version should work for you.

O.k its like this i have a recovery disk with windows xp and drivers for my acer aspire 3660. i.e all you have to do is restart the pc put the revovery disk in and it will install every thing , the drivers...

chances are, the drivers installed may not be the correct one that matches the components of your system. If you still have Windows 7, check Device Manager to see which device are not installed properly, then look for the correct Win 7 drivers for thos devices from Acer. If in case there are not Win 7 drivers for some devices, try to look for Win vista compatible drivers as they will usually work for Win 7 as well. Hope this helps and your rating/comment if this helps would be appreciated

Hello

Win 7 does not support direct sound.Go to controlpanel and run the windows update.
This should find your sound device and download the drivers for it.

Check the pc manufactures websight for audio drivers also for win 7.

Running digi 001 on windows 7

i got digi 001 running on windows 7...
i left my xp on hard disk while installing win 7. it kept xp on folder windows.old folder. in control panel i saw digi as multimedia adapter wich system couldn't recognice. hit "change settings" -> driver -> update driver
used my old windows to search for driver. it found "Dalvin.sys" driver for adapter. installed that. after that windows recogniced digi 001.
downloaded "digidesign asio 6.11" driver installer for win-xp and ran it.
and bingo - it works!
in every step windows was complaining and asking do i want to do this. just yeah'd everything. as i just had a clean install of win 7 i just thought whatta heck i can install everything again if it would not work, but it did.

so in a nut shell:
1: install Dalvin.sys in control panel for digi 001
2: run digidesign asio 6.11 driver installer for win-xp

for me it worked but i absolutely take no responsibility if you mess your system with this! at least reaper got a sound out of it. i haven't tried to record anything yet. but asio settings seemed to work as they used to do in xp.
