720n and 731n monitors are having the dame problem. My 731n starting doing this after after 6 months of use. If you registered your product after purchase I believe Samsung will replace by UPS'ing a replacement unit to a UPS center your home and you then, after it arrives, take your old unit to the center and drop it off and pick up the new unit - all at no cost.

Two days ago we faced the same problem. The monitor is 1 year old. The menu appears and flashes on the screen by itself, the buttons do not seem to work a lot, different options from the menu change by themselves. I tried several things but obviously no one worked. I did the selftesting of the monitor also, the result was the monitor was all right, but the problem remains. We decided to switch off the PC and the monitor from the electricity when not using them, and at switching on after this it is ok for some time, but then the problem appears again. Unfortunately I have not registered the monitor on Samsung website, obviously I have to go to the service and try to use the guarantee. Will inform you on the outcome, but having in mind I live in Bulgaria, I am not so optimistic. Anyway, will keep you informed.

Problem is in OSD board - hardware part. If you open your monitor, and disconnect OSD board, problem will be gone, but you can't use OSD menu anymore. Or you could try fix little board, replace connector on board - the one that reacts when you push buttons on display. Or just remove connector that is making the problem.

Probably not only because I found several forums and the same claim as is my case .. initially function to adjust the brightness automatically .. 100% ... like I keep the button pressed continuously .....

Check out this link below for a PDF manual for your monitor. You can also update your drivers. There is a support here also. Just copy and paste into your browser.

Samsung SyncMaster 720N ...

OK, I've figured it out! There's something wrong with the control chip, so if you don't have it under warranty, here's what you can do:
1. Turn off the monitor
2. Unscrew the face of the monitor
3. Remove the bottom part of the face from the backside, so you can see the chip
(the control chip is located on the face of the monitor, under the buttons)
4. You will see a small white connector about 5mm wide, UNPLUGG it
5. Put the small cable that you've unconnected under the front, so you can close the monitor back
6. Close the monitor and plug it back in

That's it. You won't be able to change your settings (they autoadjust anyway), but you won't have to throw the monitor away!

Peace.
