Hello,

First of all, disconnect your battery from back of the

laptop, then try and get a friend or a technician that

uses the same type of laptop, and try to swap the

battery just to check whether it works and charges

it properly. Also do the same thing with the

Adapter/Charger and charge it with it.

This is because, there are two diagnostic possibilities

here:

1.) It is either the battery that you bought is not good

and you need to return it quickly before its too late

or;

2.) The charger that you are using is bad, or not

supplying enough current to charge the battery

cells...and this might even damage the battery after

a while, or make the battery not to charge to its full

capacity and as well discharge quickly.

Try this out and let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps you out.

Goodluck and thanks for using fixya.

Kindly Let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps.

Goodluck!

It sounds as though the battery is not carrying the proper full charge. If the unit is still under warranty, have the battery unit replaced. Visit the website and see if there are any recalls fro your model. If yes, check to see if your model number, serial number, batch number are included.

If this is a new purchase, have you 'conditioned' the battery by charging it fully and discharging it fully at least 5 times? It's a form of 'battery exercise'.

It uses a Lithium-Ion (Li) battery, so it is unlikely to be suffering from the 'memory effect'.

If it is the original battery and you bought it years ago then the battery pack needs replacing. While it reports a full charge, the battery is simply incapable of holding enough charge to provide a strong current to drive the motor.

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.
Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

My Compaq nc6220 only starts up when the ac adaptor is plugged in. I think the battery needs to be replaced. does this sound right ?

To check if the battery is charging go to Control Panel - Power Options - Power meter. If it shows unknown or zero charge then the battery is faulty or worn out. Rechargeable batteries have only a finite amount of charge and discharge cycles and over a couple of years use they lose their full amp hour charge capacity.

I just bought new rechargeable batteries, and got only a few shots. Why so little usage from new batteries? Is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the camera or the batteries. Rechargeable batteries of all kinds will self-discharge over time. Charge them fully (if they are NiMH completely charge and discharge them a few times), and you should see full battery capacity.
