Question about Dell Latitude D800 Notebook

1 Answer

Resetting to factory settings

We need to have our notebook reset to the factory default settings. It was used on a network at a business and we need to change it up and have it connect to a different home/office network. Can you tell me how to do this? I have tried the system restore but that hasn't worked.

Thank you,
TP

First- Thank you for your response. I tried but there isn't a utilities folder in the dell folder on the local disk C. I have a dellbutn, DELLSUPPORT, E-wtrmrk and sol_cent. I tried searching for the dell utilites but came up with nothing again. Even tried just typing in the RUN box the address at the bottom, no luck either. Anything else I can try?

  • jtsservices Feb 22, 2008

One thing, we do have another newer laptop that is a Dell Insperion B130. We have the dell utilities and applications disk for that one. Would it work for the Latitude D800?

  • jtsservices Feb 22, 2008

There is a boot menu that comes up at startup when I hit the F12 key. But there wasn't a DSR or anything like that on it. Thank you.

Well that sucks for us. Thank you for your time and help.

IF YOU CAN STILL BOOT TO WINDOWS try this steps if you can still boot to windows
1. Open local disk C:
2. Go to Dell folder
3. Go to Utilities folder
4. Open DSR folder
5. There will be a file named "boot_DSR", double-click on it.
6. It will have a prompt that will tell you that it will now perform the restoration, click OK
7. The system will now reboot and you don't need to do anything, it will automatically go to the PC RESTORE.
C:\Dell\Utilities\DSR\boot_DSR

Normally they have a separate partition into which they place the "repair" files see if you can load a boot manager this might let you get access to the partition on which will be the Boot_DSR or some boot file of some kind. Ofcourse it may be that the drive was a clean install of XP over the DELL XP if this is the case you would need to buy XP and re-install and download the other drivers from the DELL site

Sorry to say it more than likely would not you have legal issues if you did so i would steer clear not only that the driver will be different

Yes that's the DELL hardware testing utility not really part of the Dell recovery partition more's the pity, We use Dell PC it appears even after we have wiped the HD. it could be that your partitiion has been wiped of the Dell recovery boot DSR and all is lost

Laptop computers can be wonderful devices, except when the need to troubleshoot arises. Acer laptops are no different. A quick way to fix many problems with an Acer laptop running Windows is to reset it to factory settings. Resetting your Acer laptop to factory settings can eliminate slow operating, registry problems, virus problems, spyware issues and more. And a factory reset of your laptop may reduce the need for a full reinstallation of Windows.

1.Back up all necessary data to an external device such as a disk, flash drive or hard drive

2.Make sure all programs are closed and shut down your Acer laptop by opening your Start menu and selecting "Shut Down" from the options for shutting down and restarting windows.

3.Detach any external hardware such as an external hard drive or printer.

4.Press the Power button to boot your Acer laptop.

5.Press "Alt + F10" on your keyboard when the Acer screen appears at the start of the boot up process. Wait a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

6.Select "Restore System from factory default" in the Acer eRecovery Management window.

7.Click "Next" on the next screen to continue. Click "Next" on the following destination information window. This will pop up a notice telling you that resetting your Acer laptop will erase all data and restore the laptop to its original settings and configuration.

8.Click "OK" in the notice window to proceed with resetting your Acer laptop.

9.Wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

How do i reset my acer aspire to its factory settings

Hi and Welcome to Fixya!

To restore your machine back to the factory settings, just follow the simple step mentioned below. Be sure that you've backed up your personal files though before doing this because resetting your machine will wipre out any changes you have made on the machine.

For an Acer machine, just press Alt+F10 when you boot up the laptop. You will see Acer Recovery Management, select "restore system to factory default settings" then follow the on-screen instructions and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps!
