Yes you could use special Fire Bricks & Cement. In fact any fireproof or Code Rated material can be used.

I need to replace my 1987 approx. Chef wall oven Balmain fan forced and grill. Does anyone know the cut out dimensions. I want to buy anew oven that will fit the existing opening. Thanks

when you buy the ovens replacement
instructions are given in the paper work how to adjust the cavity to suit

there will have to be an air gap on back and sides of the new oven

you should call an electrician to wire in the new oven
to check , even replace the 1987 wiring and connections
if needed to meet the 2016 house wiring standards

you will need
tape measure
pencils
a square
straight edge
reversible hand drill and bits
two levels .... for inside the cavity to level oven
approx a 15 inch .one 6 inch
a hand saw or circular saw
, i found a jigsaw helpful

self tapping screws different lengths
as per the oven fitting requirements
you can use any paint to finish the job

white board or MDF board is ok

some extras strips of timber to level the new oven
maybe required

if imperial was used for the cavity of the old oven
metric might be for the new oven

some DIY about wall oven installs are found on youtube

I'm removing this Whirlpool oven and want to replace it with a KitchenAid Model KEBS109BSS. Will the new KitchenAid fit in the existing cutout?

Just fill in the old opening on the top with styling to meet the height needed. If the new one is narrower in width add equally to both side styles, if its wider trim equal amounts off both sides.

Gas Pizza Oven - Heat issues

Many of the Pizza ovens require ceramic plates that line the bottom surface of each oven. These ceramic plates absorb the heat and retain the temperature. I never used our ovens with a bare lower surface, always applied the plates for even heat and distribution.

Build a pizza oven in the back yard

Hi.
All you need is bricks and cement.
Use perforated bricks or regular 65mm bricks for the support. A light oven may be built on an U shaped support (you will need to make some structural considerations about the weight). Moreover the U shaped support on top requires an armed concrete slab adequate to support the chamber. If you are not sure about structural performance, build a solid support block of bricks.
Make sure that the support is adequate for the weight of the heavy chamber. If the oven is big, then lay basic foundations or build the oven straight on the ground.
For the chamber you must use refractory bricks (fire bricks). You have different choices of design. A common shaped that do not require armed concrete parts is the igloo style chamber. Leave space for the chimney on top of the chamber.

Do i need to ventilate my wall oven

No, all wall ovens have a built in cavity extractor fan. When the oven is turned on this fan operates and blows air from the oven cavity through a vent at the front of the oven, normally just above the door. This keeps the outer oven and cabinet cooled sufficiently.

The house I've just bought has a Smeg 60 cm wall oven installed. Possibly 4-5 yrs old. I can't get it to work. An orange light comes on on the door panel when the temp control is turned on. Light goes...

Most of these ovens have two fans. A fan forced fan in the oven and a cavity extractor fan inside the cavity of the unit between the outer skin and the oven wall. The cavity fan blows hot cavity air out the front of the unit so it remains cool. If the orange indicator light is coming on this would normally be the oven element thermostat. Leave it on and see if it gets hot. If the light goes off when you select the function switch it means you are turning it off the oven function. Your interior oven light may be blown.
Hope this helps.

The fan copntinues to run after oven is turned off

Most electric ovens have 2 fans. One is a fan forced fan at the back of the oven cavity that you can generally see spinning when the oven/fan forced option is selected. The other is a cavity fan which is situated between the outer skin of the oven and the oven itself. There are generally located at the top of the oven. Because the oven is a wall oven that sits in a tight cavity it cannot cool down easily. The job of the cavity fan is to cool this cavity down by blowing the hot air in the cavity out a small hole, normally in the front of the oven. When you turn the oven off this fan might operate for 5 to 10 minutes until the oven cavity cools sufficiently. If there was no cavity fan the oven and/or cupboard would overheat.
