Firstly having tried TV's has a computer monitor, I personally wouldn't recommend one for that purpose. The screen appearance will never look as good as a proper monitor. Even a second-hand monitor will give you better picture quality, plus it will shut down when you power the system down.
Universal remotes have to be set up with the correct code for the make of TV and model. Not all codes will work all functions. Unless you actually know the correct code for your TV try all the other codes for the brand. Choose the best one.
Again the "Universal" on makes of remotes referrers to the fact you can get the basic functions for all makes of TV. It does not mean that it will work ALL functions on all TV's. The more expensive "universal" remotes will do more functions, but nothing will beat the "original" remote.
I think you may be looking for the remote IR device codes for Vizio TV for your universal remote. I have the following codes listed for Vizio on one of my universal remotes: 1009, 1030, 1346, 1413, 1414, 1415, 1459, or 1461. Set your remote's TV mode to each code to find the one that works on your TV.
Maybe i can help you this way.. switch on the tv set, aim the universal remote at the tv set. Hold the "SET" key until the indicator illuminates..Press the "VOLUME+" key on time and then release it to see the volume symbol display appear on the tv screen. if no such symbol occurs, repeat the procedure. Upon appearance of the symbol,, press the "SET" key immediately, and then the indicator goes out. Test whether the remote control function well. GOOD LUCK!
Programming a universal remote does not change any settings for the TV. If the original remote is not working you may want to try changing the batteries. If this does not help, the remote itself may be bad.
