Sony KP-51WS500 Maintenance?

I have been given a Sony KP-51WS500. I was told it had the green/red lines on occasion's which has previously been determined as a circuit board problem if I'm not mistaken. I haven't seen them since I have had it (about 2 days). To me the color seems a bit faded. I've played with the settings, but it doesn't seem to help much.

I was wondering if I could purchase replacement parts somewhere. I tried looking on the Sony website, but they didn't have anything for internal replacement parts. Im not even sure if I am heading in the right direction. I figured a little general maintenance wouldn't hurt it. What are you thoughts, suggestions?

Well that doesn't sound like any fun...I'm decent when it comes to "tinkering" with electronics, but if there are special tools that I would need to retune it, then its probably out of my hands. If the parts alone would be estimated at $300+/- not including labor, then its not really worth it to me. For the cost of parts and labor I could probably find another tv close to the same size. I was hoping I could simply do a bit of general maintenance on it.

If you have tuned it from the menu to its premium then that is it for the end user. Beyond that it is the high tech end. replacing the sustain board may not be the answer as many have previously found out. This is not board swap jockey type maintenance or fix. The sustain board controls the color engine and when it is changed or repaired requires a total retune from the inside of the set. This is High tension electriicity and if you do not have experience or understand electronix then keep away from this area. Use a professional, The expense is worth it as many who have swapped boards for cheap fix have got just that and a bigger outlay than they were expecting from getting into water that is beyond their depth.

The cost of parts for this unit is about $300 but it is not just part replacemnent, the unit requires a special expertise and set of tools that genertate test pattern and hatch module to correctly align the color engine.

Sony KP-51WS500 tv went red screen on me it has 4 blue lines going across also has blinks 6 times.. what do you think this might be..

Off hand I would con dim the Red and Blue CRT"s. If you were to replace two of them I would also do the Green CRT as well. The cost of just doing two of them is way too expensive in my opinion and you would be better served to replace the set instead of investing the amount of money needed in a 6-8 yr. old set.
Hope this helps,

Sony KP-51WS500 projection tv. Screen is green with curved lines

The green picture tube has an internal short. Happened a lot with that model. The tubes are no longer availible. But a reputable company called Video Display will rebuild the tube completely. But the tube must be pulled and shipped to them. Most repair shops would charge around $400 to $500 for the complete job.

This 3-D problem is because to failure of convergence out ICs failure in TV and convergence ICs will be replaced.
If TV is Sony KP-51WS500 then check D board for STK392-560 and replace 02 ICs.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a shorted red picture tube.It is not at all uncommon on sony rear projection. The gun shorts and the set identifies the problem and goes into shutdown. Usually there are diagonal lines in the picture before it shuts down. this is an unfortunate problem because this set delivers a great picture. The dealer cost of the tube is around $200. When the repair is complete your're probably looking at $400-$600. The only problem is that the green tube and the blue tube also have chance of having the same problem. It'a tough call . But from my experience , I have replaced the green tube and had the blue tube goe within a year. Scrivitron
