You need to make sure you have proper power to the machine.
Then get into the dryer, clean out the fluff, and check the thermal limit. To get into the dryer remove screws in the rear and get the top off. Then get the front off and remove the tub. The heater and sensors along with the thermal limit is all easily accessed. I have the repair manual which features accessing the innards and give OHM's values for various components HERE

My heat unit has been turning off and on repeatedly and at the same time a strong burning smell comes from the vent. Is my heat element going out? Unit is not very old. I checked the filter and its clean.

Have you checked the duct tube that connects to the back of the dryer and goes outside? If it is full or clogged it could cause a problem. Also if you take off the back panel (unplug first) and take off the metal shroud that covers the fan, I found a ton of junk at the bottom that had bypassed my lint trap. Finally, you may need to clean out your dryer from inside after you take off the back panel. Mine was full of dust bunnys and one of these may have gotten into the heater coils and burned.

My dryer is not blowing air at all but it is heating up

The vent may be clogged beyond the point you can reach to clean it.

if you have a bad odor, pull off the vent line from the back and see if an animal is dead there,i've found dead birds, mice and a possum,in the blower wheel of some dryers, they get in from the outside hood, once they get into the vent line and slide down they can't climb back out or if the dryer is running the wheel does a job on them.also if you had some painting or staining done this also can make the dryer smell bad.this is going by what i've found when someone complains about an odor in the dryer.hope this helps, one more thing if the motor is overheating from the dryer not being cleaned out it could have like a shellac smell, you might have to take the dryer apart to see what's stinking or it could be something near the dryer, when the air is heated in the dryer it makes the smell worse but if you find waht is causing it and remove it the smell will go away,if it is from a dead animal you can wash down the area with soapy water, you don't want to use anything with a strong smell because your clothes will smell of that when the dryer heats up.what does it smell like?

My frigidaire dryer model number gler341as2 is giving me a burning smell why is that?

Hi kmcgilvery...
That burning smell is probably a lint build up in the blower system of the dryer.
You will need to remove the back of the dryer and look for the vent tubing going to the hose connected to the outside. Once you find the tubing then disassemble and clean the tubing and blower wheel of dust...then clean your flexible vent tubing you have attached to the back of the dryer.
Please take time to rate me

How do I remove odors from this dryer?

Probably build up of dust and lint inside cabinet. You need to unplug dryer, remove back panel and vacuum out lint. If excessive lint found, would indicate insufficient cleaning of lint filter or restricted outflow vent or hose. If odour is electrical smell or burning plastic check all electrical connections and insulators for signs of browning or overheating. Strong pungent smell could be motor winding overloading or burning out. Will need electrician.

My dryer is only 3 years old and it sometimes lately has like a chemical smell after running a while.. its electric.. any reason for this?

In the years I repaired dryers they do have distinctive odors. But dryers each year should be checked for lint. Proper installation is a must. Most modern homes the dryer has little room to repair the appliance when necessary. Some dryers have metal ductwork making moving the dryer difficult. Now the popular method is with flexible hose usually 4 inches in diameter. This makes the job easier but has a distinct disadvantage. The dryer vent hose must not be installed in such a way that the air flow is restricted. Two 90 degree bends are allowed. Vent hoses over 10 feet (two 90s) can fill up with lint a dangerous condition which left unchanged can clog up the vent and passages in the dryer. Lint around the heating elements will burn this is normal when adequate venting is mantained. Elastic and other rubberized waistbands should not be allowed to overheat see the owner's manual.
Keeping filters clean after each drying cycle is a must. It is a good idea to remove the vent hose or tubing and inspect and clean. You may need a service technician to clean areas you can see but not reach. Nothing wrong with shutting off the power to the dryer and using a vacuum to clean dryer areas.

Strong odor coming from dryer

Usually when there is a strong heat (burn) smell from the heat element, it is telling you that there is poor air flow. This has nothing to do with the model. It is a blocked or restricted vent line, or an internal blower wheel malfunction or a lint blockage further in the machine that is restricting the air flow. WHEN AIR MOVES CORRECTLY, THE ELEMENT HEATS NORMALLY AND DOES NOT GIVE ANY OVERHEAT ODER.

Frigidaire gas front loading dryer smells from gas.

Your gas dryer uses a lot of air, not just the air that blows out the vent but the air used to burn the gas ( natural or propane ) as well, This is sometimes caused by the filter not being completely clean. By this I am referring to the clogging of the screen from the use of fabric softener sheets. The chemicals in these sheets will, over a period of time, impair the air flow through the screen and cause the gas odor to become prominent not to mention the temperature to rise within the dryer. you can clean the filter with soapy water and a tooth brush about every other month and it keeps this from occurring. but if after that the smell gas continues ...turn off the gas valve to the dryer and call for service!

Dryer burning smell

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
