Not sure I understand what you want. If you need to buy some new batteries, do a google search. They're available at many sites....

Can't Access menu funtions

Hi Charles,

My advice, for what it's worth, is to do the following: join yahoo group specific to your radio Make/Model, there you will find a wealth of info, plus free downloads.

The batteries have likely been damaged from being on the chargers too long. Try trading a known good battery into the non-working radios and see if it/they will work with a good battery. If so, replace your batteries, and then only put the radios on the charge when they need a charge, such as after the radios have been used 8-10 hours. Longterm charging can quickly age batteries. Life expectancy of a battery is 18-24 months with good care.

Best regards.

I have quit a few talkabout T7400 we bought a few years ago. None of them are working. I can tell you that they were being put back in the chargers in the on position. Is there a way I can test the...

To answer your questions:
1) The light on the charger should come on and stay on, when a radio or a battery is charging. It is not likely all the chargers would go bad at the same time. With this in mind, check your charge contacts on ther radio and the charger. Clean with a pencil eraser if needed. Try charging a battery outside of the radio (if you have a drop-in base), just to see if you get a constant red light on the charger. If not, your charger or possibly the battery is bad.
2) If you have a voltmeter you can check for existing charge in the battery. It will not tell you charging capacity, but it will tell you if it is flat dead or not. Check the date code on the battery. It is a 4-digit number on the back portion of the label in the white area. It will read as 1121, 11 is the year, 21 the week of the year. NiMH batteries have a 2 year life expectancy. And as you indicated, charging with the radio turned on, will age the batteries quickly. It is not good to leave the batteries on a charger with the radio turned on, or for extended periods of time, such as weeks or months. A few days won't hurt occasionally.
3) Lastly, your radios may need serviced. You could have charge/accessory jacks which are worn out, if you are using the wall plug style charger only, and do not have a drop-in base. If they have been anywhere moist they could have grown corrosion and be non-repairable. However, if they are dry and otherwise free of defect they should be repairable. (Current expected flat rate repair is $69 at a dealer who works on this model.)

Charger should be able to power the radio at 'EL' level, if NOTHNG happens, I'd say charger is on the blink.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY IS NOT HOLDING A RECHARGE

This sounds like you have a battery that has gone bad. If this is the case then it is possible that your local dealership can sell you a new battery. If they can't then try searching for the battery number on ebay or another website that sells batteries.

Look at the user manuals for both radios and compare the frequency assignment for each channel. find the ones that match and program the radios to talk to each other.

FreeTalk 3131 compatible with proTalk radios?

Hello Christian,

Some of the Kenwood ProTalk series radios may be programmable by the dealer to operate in the 462-468 MHz range used by GMRS and FRS radios. However the radios are not FCC approved for those channels and do not comply with requirements for FRS and GMRS radio equipment.

You are going to be better served by picking up a FreeTalk 3131XLS like your friends have. In terms of style and features this radios is very similar to the ProTalk but is type approved for use on GMRS.

Keewood Protalk 2 way radio xls receives , but doesn't transmit

Hello jf1111,

It could be a low battery. Does the screen go completely blank when you attempt to transmit? Two way radios draw a lot more power when transmitting then when receiving so a low battery might cause the radio to cut out when you press the Push-to-Talk and then the radios might appear to turn back on when you release the PTT. If this behavior persists even after charging the battery then the battery or charger (or both) might be defective.

If the battery isn't the issue then the radio could be programmed incorrectly. Does the problem occur on all channels or just one? The Kenwood ProTalk requires dealer programming with a software kit to set the frequencies for each channel. A channel that is programmed for an out of bounds frequencies would generate an error when the PTT is pressed. You might need to have the programming checked out by your local Kenwood Two-Way radio shop.

Best Regards,
Ken
