Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Ok, I have a whirlpool washer frontend loader.I've replaced the pressure switch, the inlet valves and the pump motor and still i get f 02 witch says it is the drain pump, got a brand new one and installed it. still does the same thing.i didnt have a voltage meter but had one that tells you if its hot or not. hooked it up to the plug that plugs into the drain pump and started the cycle. when the time came for the drain pump the tester light came on. not sure how much power went to the pump if it was enough to power it or not. on the pump it says 120v so i hooked it up to a plug in and the pump ran good band smooth. not sure what to do now and the wife is not very happy with me on this one at all.

Thanks for your time, I sure do appriciate it. The funny thing is that I found the service spread sheet taped to the inside after i replaced everthing and I did everthing it said to do in that order. the funny thing is , all the websites I've been trough as well as the owners manual for info on this nothing was ever said anything about a service mannual or a the drain plug that was just stuffed with change, screws, hair ties and other stuff. You would think they would tell you about that stuff when you by it. anyway thanks again

Ok well heres the deal, I know you dont stand in good terms right now with the wife and I wish there was a definite answer that I could give you but there is not sure answer without being able to run diagnostics on the machine in person. The F02 error Is an error code that is processed by the Central control unit and sent out to the main control board (display board)

Two technicians that I work with have come across this recurring error code within the last year or so. The first time it was solved by actually replacing the Central Control Unit (which is a very expensive guess). The other time it was solved by simply blowing out the pressure switch hose with co2 and removed some piece of debris obstructing the airflow. (which would be a free) I would check the pressure switch fill tube to make sure that is clear first even blowing into the line will probably do it. However these units are very tricky sometimes and the error codes that they spit out are completely irrelevant.

Next I would try unplugging every harness that connects to the CCU which will be mounted in the top towards the back or on the front right hand side depending on who produced the unit. This will reset the CCU and possibly rid you of the problem. If it allows you to run a few loads and the error comes back then you could be looking at a bad CCU. However as you probably know there is no way to actually test the CCU and it would be just a guess.

I have also seen bad door locks cause drain errors however if your door is locking and your door lock light is coming on then you will probably be ok in that aspect.

Also at a training seminar for whirlpool they told us if we get recurring error codes (which are usually going to be different each time) to replace the EMF filter located int the back. They said that if the EMF filter is bad you can plug an AM radio into the same outlet as the unit and if you get alot of interference then replace the EMF. Ive never came across this issue yet but I know of a few techs who have.

Lastly this would be a long shot but is also FREE. If you unplug the unit and take the plug itself and ground the two terminals to the chassis of the unit (with the top off) It will actually bleed all of the capacitors in the board and rid the board of any possible static. This may correct the issue.

I know this is all fairly vague but ive given you all that ive learned about these blasted units. They can be a nightmare even for us guys that work on them every day.

Hope this will steer you in the right direction _MJ_

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

If the water flows though the inlet then the flow pressure should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. Once the water comes into the system the WATER LEVEL SENSOR - normally a pressure switch- must activate at the preset/chosen level to give the signal to the program controller to switch on the motor. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor for rinse and wash.

Finally after the wash the drain valve will be activated, the water is allowed to come in to rinse and then finally the dry spin with the drain valve/pump activated so as to drain off all the water from the clothes during the spin.

FH has shown up on my whirlpool duet washer GH9150, water was shut off and now it is stuck in cycle and will not stop

FH = (No water detected entering machine or pressure switch trip not detected)

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine, the valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.
OR
If the control has turned the water valves on, and after 8 minutes, the flow sensor has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off, and the error code will flash.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• If there is no water in the unit:
- Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way.
- Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves.
- Verify inlet valve operation.

• If there is water in the unit:
- Verify drain pump operation.
- Verify that the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to tub
and pressure switch.

1. Verify there is not a siphon problem.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Verify wire harness connections to inlet valves, pressure switch, drain pump, flow meter,
and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check all hoses for possible leaks.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Verify pressure switch operation.
7. Verify flow meter operation by blowing air through the part and measuring the resistance.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle.

Replace failed component.(Which will be the pressure switch if all checks out ok, above)

FH flashing on Whirlpool washer

hi....If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it....

thank u!!! rate me!!

Whirlpool top loader

You either have a defective pressure switch or water inlet valve. Start to fill the machine with warm water so that both solenoids on the water inlet valve (hot and cold) are activated. After about 30-60 seconds, push the timer knob in to stop water flow. If the water continues to flow, replace the water inlet valve. If this is the case, it may take a few times of starting and stopping water flow to allow solenoid to heat up and become symptomatic. If water flow stops abruptly each time knob is pushed in, you most likely have a defective pressure switch (water level switch).
