WD My BOOK 1 TB only shows 20 mb when connected through Belkin N+ wireless rounter. I have a WD 1 TB which is FAT32 and works fine when connected directly to my WIN 7 laptop. But when I connect it to a Belkin router I can see only 20 mb of the hard drive and no files that used to be in there. Not sure what the problem is . Can you please help.

The problems you are having is that 32 bit addressing will only provide a maximum volume size of 20Gb. If you can reformat, you’re NAS device as NTFS this may help.

Hello, I bought WD My Book Essential 1 TB but whenever i connect it to my Samsung DVD player it doesn't get recognized. Any help? Thanks

Most probably the format of your hard drive is NTFS. Samsung DVD players only recognize FAT32 formats. If you have the patience and resources try to change the format of your hard drive to FAT32. Better yet since it is a 1TB try to create a partition one NTFS and one FAT32 because FAT32 cannot go beyond 4GB for files.

Hope this helps.

The belkin rounter of my dad's laptop was installed without password setting. i tried to set it up on 192.168.2.1 configuration page. i was notified that the rounter will restart again itself...thereafter...

If you can still remember the password that you entered on the configuration page, follow the steps below:
1. In the lower right corner of your screen (near the time and date), right click on the wireless network connection icon, then select view available wireless networks. Or, if your wireless adapter has its own wireless utility, you should see that in the lower right corner of your screen.
2. You should see the router's wireless network name (SSID). By default, the SSID is "belkin54g". Select the SSID and it will prompt you for the network key.
3. The network key is the password that you entered on the router configuration page.

If you cannot remember the password that you entered, follow the steps below.
a. Connect your computer to the router using an ethernet cable.
b. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar.
c. Go to Wireless -> Security. Copy the network key.
d. Then follow steps 1-4 above.

For the MAC computer:
1. From the Airport menu, select the SSID.
4. When asked for a password, enter the network key that you entered on the router.

I hope this helps!

Why wont my wd elements 1 tb hardrive work on my ps3??

1) It needs to be FAT32 PLUS it needs to be externally powered. I found out the hard way that the PS3's USB ports do NOT provide enough power for a standalone USB hard drive, so you need to add your own power supply.

I have recently bought a Belkin N+ Wireless Modem-Router (model F5D8635-4 v1). It comes with the USB port and I bought a WD 1Tb drive to connect with it. I added the WD drive (92.168.2.1My Book in my...

  • First off, the WD hard drive was meant to be connected to a computer.
  • Therefore connect it to the fastest computer you have or the one running the network.
  • Make that drive a network drive.
  • Set the router to handle DHCP using the web based interface (192.168.1.1 on a linksys router, check your manual for the IP address belkin)
  • The drive apparently has three volumes on it: X: Y: and Z: (network drives)
  • I would backup the WD drive and reformat in NTFS format
  • I dont believe that these drives were meant to be networked. Therefore you get what you get....

WD My Book 1TB not recognised by belkin modem router USB storage

If I understand correctly ... You have not connected the drive to a computer.

If I am not mistaken the WD My Book has preinstalled backup software installed on it. It very well might also have a power down built as part of that programming. Try attaching it to a computer to verify this.

Assuming the backup software needs blank drive to work correctly I would first access the drive select all and delete anything you find (if you know how to unhide hidden files do that before you select and delete all) ... As a 2nd option I would just reformat the drive.

Hope that helps....

WD My Book 1TB not recognised by belkin modem router USB storage

I have a work around for this.

In the detail of the Belkin manuals it says you can attach up to 4 USB storage devices via a USB HUB.

I had an old Hub so I Connected the HUB to the router and the Maxtor to the HUB --- It worked :-) It came up in a few seconds.

At first I powered the HUB but later took the power out of the hub and it still worked ;-} However when I used a different HUB it would not work without power to the HUB.

The HUB I use is an old Belkin 4 port Tetra Hub. The newer 7 port Belkin HUB (5 Rear 2 Top) only worked with the HUB powered.

Hope this helps untill Belkin Upgrade the Router sofrtare.

Downloading Problem

See if belkin has a firmware upgrade for your router - They may have already found and fixed a bug in the router and you just need to install it.
