Question about Rheem Paloma Tankless Water Heaters PTG-74PVN Tankless RTG-74PVN
There is a piece of clear plastic film wraped around the heat exchanger. Conductive material (black) is coated on that film. In case of overheating, the film melts, break the circuit and the heater stops. That's how it works, in theory. I had the same problem and had to remove the heat exchanger to inspect the film on the back side. It's a pain in the @#$%, especially found no problem with the film itself. This is what you should do: Find and disconnect connector U in the center of the board with 2 tiny white wires. Measure resistance between those 2 wires, should be 50K~100K. If it's open, either the film is damaged or, in my case, the connector on the film is bad (on the right side of the heat exchanger). Since no other tankless maker uses this protection scheme, I don't think it's doing much. My solution is to fool the controller with a 100K ohm resistor across the 2 white wires. If you're not comfortable with my micky mouse solution, replace the film.

I am certain that the 100 ohm resistor would work perfectly, but since I wanted to take a hot shower tonight, I simply used the half of the film that was remaining by Drilling a screw through it and vent racing the Black Ink about halfway through and drilling another screw through it. A range of 50-500 ohms is significant so even a small piece of remaining film should provide the necessary resistance.

I followed these already posted directions, found the thermal film melted and could not really trace the wires from the board to the film. I went straight to the film connections pulled the wires from it and spliced in the 100k,1/4 Watt R between the two white wires...... and i am back in hot water. Gotta love the net!

i placed the 100k resistor but error code still show 14-0 and still not working
please advise what should i do now.
