Question about Air Tools & Compressors

The psi gauge on my tc-20 compressor leaks like a sieve. I replaced the gauge & it still does it. It won't hold pressure because all of the air just blows out around the gauge. I used teflon. Any ides?

Hello I have a 20 gallon kobalt model 033204. I just replase pressure switch but does same thing. When I tur on the compressor jus build 50 psi and shuts off.


This usually occurs when the motors internal thermal / amp breaker opens due to overload or weak breaker. Use an amp gauge to test for too much amp draw. If amp draw is normal, then problem could be the in-tank check valve leaking pressure back to the pump overloading the system, or weak capacitor or weak breaker. Bypass the breaker temporarily if the amp draw is normal to test system. Good luck

Why will my bostitch pancake compressor 240 psi tank 180 regulator that the guages will not show building pressure


Hi, There are different posibilities. I would need more information. Was it always like that? Does the guage on the main tank and the guage on the regulator both not show more than 20psi? When the auto shut-off is triggered do you feel there is more than 20 psi in the tank?

I have a 2 gallon compressor , no air comes out?


Check if air intake is clogged.
Check if drain valve on tank bottom is open or closed.
Look at pressure gauge and see if pressure is zero.
Adjust pressure so tank will hold 80-120 psi.
Check air lines between compressor and tank to see if they are leaking. Listen for leaking air while motor is running.

Campbell Hausfeld 13 gal air copressor, when I trun it on it won't build up max pressure and won't shut-off One of the gauges reads 40 PSI the other reads 60 PSI.


Your problem is most likely because of damage to the valve plate or piston & cylinder. If one or both of these are not working properly you'll get partial pressure and the unit won't turn off because the tank never comes up to full pressure. Things to check for are damage to the reeds on the valve plate, they could be bent from overheating or broken from use or wear or damage to the piston seal which can cause damage to the cylinder. If any of these aren't sealing properly the air pressure will come up to a point where the air leaks out faster than it goes into the tank. Without your particular model number I don't know which parts to recommend but if you contact Campbell Hausfeld they'll help you get the right parts.

My compressor will not go over 20 psi i have a craftsman 921 4 gal 125 psi compressor and it will not build past 20 psi i do not know how to get to the pistons and stuff what do i do?


The problem with compressors not building pressure is usually a bad pressure switch or bad regulator. Does the motor shut off at 20psi or does it continue running and not build pressure? If the motor continues to run with no increase in pressure, the you should go over the machine looking for air leaks from your regulator back all the way to the motor. Any air leak while the compressor is running can cause the pressure to "peak" way before the intended shutoff that it is regulated to.

I have a Hitachi compressor EC12. Motor runs okay & air pressure gets upto 125 psi, however, its not giving out any air on my output hose. what is wrong with this? I would appreciated if you could...


When the pressure reducer fails, it may leak around the adjuster or it may close as yours has. A temporary fix would be to remove the safety unloader or a tank pressure gauge and install a tee fitting replacing safey or gauge and install a quick fitting for air. You will only have tank pressure available however this is a temp fix untill you replace the pressure reducer. You do not have to replace with factory parts, there are generic parts available at Lowes or similar stores. For factory parts go to www.toolpartsdirect.com. Where is the a.i.r. pump located



The air pump for the secondary air system (emission control device) is located under the battery. If you do replace it, replace the check valve too, it is on top of the exhaust manifold and connected to the pump with a hose. The check valve fails and ruins the pump. I think they are talking about the pump to provide vacuum to the climate control when the turbo is putting boost in the intake manifold. The vacuum can come from an electric pump or from an engine driven pump, something like an old engine driven fuel pump. I needed an electric pump for my 765T, and all the wrecking yards wanted to sell me the engine driven form. (A new one was $500, and it wasn't that important to me.)

Automatic Level Control System Operation Check
Support the rear wheels or support the rear lower control arms when certain tests require raising the vehicle on a hoist. Use two additional jack stands in order to support the rear lower control arms in the normal curb weight position when a frame type hoist is used. Refer to Trim Height Specifications in Suspension General Diagnosis.

Refer to ALC Suspension System Check for electrical troubleshooting of the Automatic Level Control (ALC) system, or if DTC's are present.

Diagnosing Leveling Complaints Without DTCs Present Procedure
Perform the following preliminary inspections before performing the system performance test:

Inspect the ignition (pin A & pin H) at the ALC sensor connector.
Ensure that the ignition (pin A & pin H) at the ALC sensor connector connection is secure.
Inspect the ground (pin E) at the ALC sensor connector.
Ensure that the ground (pin E) at the ALC sensor connector connection is secure.
Inspect the ALC sensor link.
Ensure that the ALC sensor link is properly secured to the actuator arm.
Inspect the ALC sensor actuator arm for damage.

I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number.
