Most element simply "Plug In" as such it is NOT too much of a mission to install. Ensure you get the EXACT element.

Kill the power to the stove. L2 is always hot to the element. If it welded itself to the frame whats left of the element stays hot. Easy fix but power needs to be OFF

Bottom element doesnt work in oven, but top does.

NOPE!
  1. Broil element does not have welded-on legs and will touch the bottom of oven, overheating itself and will end up the same way your bake element did; besides, the bottom of the oven will corrode pretty quick
  2. Many ovens use both elements during bake cycle
  3. self clean cycle uses broil element
  4. The bake and broil elements typically have different mounting brackets and screw holes ate in different places
  5. you'd have to cover the hole, left after removing the broil element, and insulate the wires, which went to broil element
  6. the ends, protruding behind the mounting bracket may have different length and different connectors. you may end up shorting the wiring to the casing, which may in turn destroy the control board if there is one
  7. Bake elements usually cost only $40-$60. No jury rigging required.
Hope this helps ;)
Good luck!

The bottom element in my Kenmore oven just got red

Yes. Unplug the range, remove the screws, holding the element, remove element, disconnect wires on the ends of the element. Installation is the same in reverse. Complete model number is needed for the part# of the element

There is heat, but not nearrrrrly what it should be. The other day we noticed the metal coil thingy on the bottom ("bake element"?) do a weird thing, it turned very bright and a small bright spark spread...

That is what I would do. Be sure to remove the power plug before doing any kind of work on the elements or wiring. If the element is a 'plug-in' device, the repair is simple. But if the element connections are buried in the oven back, it requires more careful work. Hope this helps!

Heating elementglowing bright red funny smell

I
make sure the fan is working o/k, because if it is not, then the element will get bright red hot.
If the fan is working o/k, then the element will still get red hot, but not bright red.
If the fan is not working, then it needs replacing.

Hidden bottom element not heating. Went to remove it and it had burnt through. New element doesn't get hot.

Assuming that you installed the replacement correctly, can you check the element with a resistance meter?

It's possible the replacement element you bought was faulty. But first, we want to ensure that the oven is otherwise functioning correctly. You'll need that resistance meter to check continuity along the red wire (i'm presuming) that connects your top and bottom element to your selector knob. Also make sure there are no internal fuses in your oven that may have blown.

Please remember to turn the oven off at the breaker board before working inside it.

Hope this helps, let me know.

Oven won't work

It sounds like your heat ignitor went out. To find out open the door and look for a 1/4" rod that starts in back and wraps to front then to back again that is it. shout door turn on oven to se if that get bright red I would start at 475 degrees. If it does not get bright red it went out and needs to be replaced. If I get model # I can get part # and manual to show you how to replace it. Or you can cal out an appliance repair man.
Good luck.
