well 1) it wont even go to safe mode. i press f8 before it loads and nothing happens. 2) there is no CD drive, nor is there backup software. 3) HP has the worst support system up right now.

to be more clear: I turn on the computer, the lights go on, the screen lights up. the first screen it shows is the one with the HP Logo and 2 keys F9 and F10. F9 doesnt really work, and F10 doesnt do anything. thats as far as i get.

Try to start it in safe mode, then you can run system restore back to see if this fixes it. when computer loads up and shows the first screen, then push f-8 before it fully loads, this will take you to the safe mode screen, choose safe mode, then when loaded run system restore back to where the problem was ok. if this does not work then I would restore windows from the backup cd. if using safe mode when rebooting, it will change back to normal.

Compaq Presario CQ50-103NR Notebook PC stuck in sleep mode

Try and perform a Hard Reset onto your laptop.

Performing Hard Reset
1. Turn off PC
2. Unplug both battery and ac adapter
3. Hold Down on the power button for 30 seconds
4. Plug everything back in and turn it on.

When you are back at your desktop screen, change the sleep mode and display settings to 1 minute to see if you can wake it back up.
If not, then load into your BIOS by pressing F10 during boot up. Once in BIOS, press the F9 key and select "load defaults". Once you load defaults, press to F10 key again to save changes and exit. After that, search the hp website using your product # on your laptop to see if there are any BIOS updated for your product.

1; Try running with no main battery first. (batteries are short lived)
2: try a new power pack.? (wall to PC)
3: ;make sure the power pack jack at PC edge when wiggled does not cause screen to drop out. (bad connection there)
4: bad LCD inverter. (if separate from main screen)
5: stuck key on keyboard.
6: As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
7:overheating, it can do that fast if the CPU heat sing falls off.

Hi, i have a mini 1000 xp, it will show the hp logo and says press f9 or f10, but after that the screen will not load if dont click any button, it stays on black screen

It happens like that only when the Operating System fails to load correctly. Insert your OS CD and perform a repair. This will identify damaged files and reinstall them. If this procedure doesn't work, you will have to install a new copy of the Operating System.

Hi,
This might be an issue with the Hard drive or the operating system installed on the hard drive.
Try to access BIOS screen tapping on F10 on restart.
If you are able to access Bios try to run the Short smart self test on the Hard drive.
To run the test follow the steps as follows:
on the main window you will see 1 st drive 2nd drive 3rd drive 4th drive.
besides these drive letters you will find your Hard drive listed.
Highlight that and press enter.
on the next screen highlight Smart support and press enter.
on the next screen select Short smart self test and run the test.
If it gives an error code that means the hard drive has gone bad.
2)If not then come back on the main page by clicking on ESC button till you come back to the main page.then Press F5 select yes to load set up defaults and press enter.Press F10 once to save configuration changes and press enter.
It will boot to windows.
3)Still if you face the same issue then you need to perform the recovery using the recovery cds.
4)If you don't have the recovery cds then you can contact HP support and order the cds and perform the recovery.
This should resolve your issue.
Thanks.
