Question about Toshiba Satellite 1715XCDS Notebook

Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Drivers?

Dear Folx,

Thank you for my past issue with the Asus Motherboard. I'm sending it
out to be re-RMA-ed, and keep after them till I get a working PC! :)

Anyways, I have a "pre-owned" Toshiba Satellite 1715XCDS Notebook,
that "had" Windows XP, and ran sluggish, then I "wiped" the drive and put
Windows 2000 Professional. It's "less sluggish" than XP, yet I want to know if Windows 2000 Drivers will work on a Windows NT 4.0 Workstation

Before I get started on a project, I am humbly seeking wise counsel on
what drivers would work on this notebook, or this notebook IS NOT,
part of the Windows NT 4.0 Hardware Abstraction Layer, or the
Compatibility List? Would Windows 98, or 98SE be better?

Any Thoughts? :) Thank You.. :)

(Oh yeah, what about the Battery and Memory Upgrades? Where do I
"exchange" the Battery and find compatible memory for this notebook?)

    Dear ctf1800,

Looks like its designed for Windows 98SE, ME, and 2000. Oh
well, I was in a "retro" mood. Thank You! :) If you come across any
Windows NT 4.0 "friendly" or "compatible" notebooks would you
let me know? I got this particular notebook at a garage sale for
80 bucks, O.O.W. with a dead battery, and someone tried to put
Windows XP on it. Thank You once again! :)

    Dear Folx,

I did some serious thinking, and you guy's were right. I was the
dunder head. :-/ :P I had realized the "previous" owner of the
"previous" owner had Windows XP on top of Windows ME or
something like it. It was running sluggggggggggish.

Well, a friend made me a Windows Washer Erase Disk, after
salvaging the CD-ROM, and getting the Notebook to boot off of
the floppy, then waiting about 12 hours, (Did the Gutmann clean)
reinstalled Windows 2000, works better than ever! Got a new
battery, and told to run the battery cycle. Works a lot better.
Now, I need memory for this little honeybunn, and I'll be set! :)
Too bad, I can't play movies or games w/out it choking. Oh
well. Thank YOU ALL YOU ROCK!! FIXYA!! :)

I installed Windows 7 in the Asus M2N-MX series motherboard but could not load audio drivers. Where can I dowload audio driver from?

The drivers for Vista should work just as well for Windows 7. This is true with almost everything about Windows 7; in fact, Windows 7 is actually NT kernel 6.1! (Vista is NT kernel 6.)
1) Go here: 2) Type M2N-MX into the search box on the left. 3) Select M2N-MX from the results. 4) For your OS choose Vista 32-bit if you installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7 or Vista 64-bit if you installed the 64-bit version. 5) Have fun.
Good luck.

I installed a new asus motherboard in a computer and I get the message NTLDR missing. What does NTLDR mean? Ed

It's referring to a file on the hard drive. You'll need to reinstall the operating system in order to make your hard drive work with this new motherboard. If you have files on the hard drive that you need saved, make sure you back them up BEFORE installing Windows or you will lose them!

If you have more questions just reply to this post.

I m using asus p5sd2-vm .vedio and audio drivers for win7 are nt available on asus website.can any body send me links from where a can free download my motherboard drivers. (

Its a common problem, all you need to do is download and Install Windows XP (either 32 or 64 bit addition's) driver depending on your Windows 7. (If windows 7 is 64 bit then install 64 bit or else 82 bit for 32 bit Windows Xp usually Service pack 2).

Have a nice day !

Sata controller was corrupted. cannot install any sata drives or sata drives was not found on the system.

henx, How do you know that the SATA controller is corrupt?

I see you state that your SATA drives are not beeing found by the system. The SATA controller is defective if your bios does not see a connected SATA drive connected to the SATA port & the SATA power connector is also correct & connected. There is not a fix for your issue. I checked every bios version for your P4S800D-X. No SATA fix through Asus. There is only one way to get your board fixed. You must call Asus tech at 812-282-2787 M-F Eastern time. Please have handy the set of numbers found on a white sticker on the serial port. Asus will need this number. Keep your system together as the tech will want you to do some checks before he will issue you a case number. Keep in mind Asus warrants boards for three years. Asus also can not repair your board's defective SATA controller. They will test it & replace board with another. After receiving a case number you'll have to call CA for a RMA No#. RMA dept, will send you a RMA to your email address along with instructions on how to send the board back to Asus.

I'm sorry to say that I had much the same problem with a RMA'ed mobo from Asus. The one that came back worked for a short time, and then died.

I can't say that Asus is the only one I've had the same problem with, Intel has done the same. But I kinda expected more from Asus. I did not bother again, I just decided to do a mobo/CPU/memory upgrade at Fry's.
