Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

HI- I've seen a similar problem described, where the motor on a Maytag (combo washer/dryer) works, but needs a tug on the belt to get started. You mentioned that it sounded like the motor was shot. I'm just trying to be more certain before ordering up a new motor and replacing it. I got the machine to run thru a full cylce (having to give it several tugs throughout). HOWEVER, when the timer is at the very end, just before the motor's gentle hum ceases and it's officially off, smoke starts coming from the motor! Is it definitely the motor at fault here? Or could it be that the timer or sensors are sending it signals when it shouldn't? (I don't know if that quite makes sense). I'd love a little definitive analysis on this issue! Thanx so much, Dave

    Thanx, jyackle5,

Do you feel, tho, that the problem is specifically, the motor? I've read that when replacing the motor, is is advised to replace both belts as well. So, if I'm going to invest in all those parts, I'd like to be pretty confident that that will solve my problem.

Does is sound to you like there could be any problem with the timer or anything else as well?

The odd thing is that the washer was working just fine when I dismantled the dryer above to replace a part ( the housing for the filter). Then upon turning the dryer on to test it, the smoke started coming up from below.

I know the wiring wasn't changed in any way. Does anything come to mind about what may have happened?

    thanx,
    Dave

Yes if you motor smoke at the end then yes your motor needs to be replaced. I would replace before you use again. That is a fire hazard.

    From wht you have added.

Sence you have it apart I would change the belts also.

As for the timmer I do not think that is a problem. It would be a problem if it was not working all the time.

There is nothing else that comes to ming with what can be wrong. If you put it back together right then you will be fine. Just replace the motor and belts.

I have worked at sears appliance have come across exact or similar problems. You push the button and you hear something like a loud buzzing. My experience has been that the drive motor is locked and needs replacing. Depending on the age of the dryer and the cost of a motor and installation, you might but another dryer.

Hi, I just purchased an older style washer dryer combo. When loaded (with as little as two towels) it doesn't agitate or spin. Belt is fine. Drum starts to turn but can't make it up the hill. Any sugg

Your motor may be having trouble starting due to a bad capacitor or start winding in the motor. Ideally you want to use a multimeter to test resistance of the start winding.

The dryer on my maytag stacked combo lse7804ace the motor works but the dryer doesnt spin. Broken belt?

You will need to either re-install the belt or replace it. I would assume that it's broken because it's not that common for it to just run off the pulleys.

CHANGE THE DRYER BELT MODEL LSE7800ACW MAYTAG WASHER/DRYER COMBO

Hi...you can go to the following website and check out how the belt goes on the dryer.
On a front load dryer, you would normally remove the front to expose the drum and belt, after you remove the drum then that exposes the drum rollers, motor, idler arm pulley, etc.

Hope this helps

The motor is faulty. Either the relay contacts are stuck or there is a shorted winding. Best to replace the motor.
